Definately dont send her in good clothes! i know with my daycare they get really annoyed bcos they always send out letters stating "old clothes only" but parents still send them in very expensive flash clothes and then moan when they have paint etc on them!

Try TM for cheap daycare clothes, have a look in the bulk lots on there.

For her bag - just pack a few changes of clothes and medication, formula, dummies bottles etc. When my boy was younger (Astin) i would send him with 3-4 changes of clothes, nappies, his bottle, his dummy, his special alergy formula and his asthma inhaler.

Hope that helps

Second hand shops are great for getting good daycare clothes. Also our preschool washes out anything that will stain straight away and most of that paint comes out pretty easily.

Are you going for any visits before she starts? I would recommend one or two visits where you stay with her just to get her used to everything. Then when you leave her for the first time don't hang around too long, drop her off, get her playing with something, tell her you will pick her up after her lunch/sleep/afternoon tea and then leave. When you pick her up stay for a wee bit to see what shes been doing.

Try not to worry too much about her and enjoy your time to yourself. It can be reall heart wrenching leaving them but they do have a really great time.

Good luck

Hi, my bubs started daycare just before she was 6 months old - and it was probably harder on me the mum than her! I have been lucky that she seems to be quite happy going to her carer and we haven't had tears yet.

Have you had a settling in period at DC? Even though I didn't want to do the settle in period - it was a great way for us both to get used to being without each other. I have to supply the nappies and formula but they give her solids.

Bubs is my 1st bubs as well and like you I have only good clothes. I brought a few things from Farmers - the Tweey Weeny Brand - I have found hold up quite well and some Pumpkin Patch of Trade Me. When her good clothes (Pumpkin Patch ...) are close to being outgrown than I am happy for her to go to DC in them.

She has done a few things with paint and I have found soaking them in Nappysan works a treat.

Also be prepared for bugs .... my bubs 2nd week in ended up with a tummy bug!!! I couldn't believe that 2nd week back at work I was away 3 days!

Good luck.

Issy is going to start a couple of days at the centre where DH works.

I got a load of clothes from PP online using the secret codes .. at $5 a top and $8 a pair of pants or jeans she can get covered in paint for all I care

Oh and shouldnt they have told you what she needed to take?

Issy is starting next week .. we are doing two one hour visits the two days before her start date .. then on the Wednesday I will play it by ear .. I will probably go and get her at lunchtime (she goes in at 9).

Although having a parent work there (even if it is in another room) is a huge advantage as she wont be alone.
Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months)

I did it .. 41 kgs gone! From flab to fab in under a year LFs weight blog

I got Mias Daycare clothes from second hand shops mostly. And she just went in stained clothes most of the time.

My main daycare tip is to name EVERYTHING - it's so much easier to search through the bucket of odd socks if your ones have a name/symbol on them.
