Topic: Walking...how long did it take? Posted: 19 July 2007 at 3:54pm |
...for your little one to go from walking holding onto one hand to walking independently?
My clever wee poppet has just started to walk whilst holding only one of my hands! She's been walking holding onto two hands for about a month and just starting walking with only one hand today

I can't remember, it was still a few weeks I think. It was 2 months from both hands to none.

Does she take any steps on her own? Jack was about a month from his first step to walking pretty confidently.
He could walk holding onto both hands ages before he walked but he wouldn't walk holding onto one hand until well after he was walking fine on his own so its hard to say. Your girl might get up and walk tomorrow or it still could be a while.
But yay Gabrielle

We were really evil and would let go of her hand mid-walk to see if she would keep going Quick! call CYFS lol She managed a few steps before she realised.
But if she's able to do the one finger support then it really is just a matter of her having confidence to go it alone as you're not holding any weight up.
Congrats to Elle
P.S are you sure you want to encourage the walking? I'll let you decide after you see Caitlin on Saturday RUNNING around the house!

Ben was a shocker, he walked holding one hand from 10 months, but it took him until just over a week ago (13 1/2 mths!) to walk by himself all the time!
I think hes definatly in the minority though, it just took a while to gain his confidence but I was getting very sick of the whining until someone would go and grab his hand so he could walk and crawling was so for babies!!!!

My cousin's little boy was the same! He would whine and whine until someone took his hand and then he'd just start taking off so fast that he left the person holding his hand in the dust LOL. It didn't take him long to get the confidence to walk all by himself. A matter of weeks, really.
Ashlee has no inclination to walk when I hold her hands to stand. However, if there's a ball in sight, she'll very quickly try to toddle over to kick it hehe.

I don't think Isaac ever held my hand! He didn't start walking until 15 months though.

Ashleigh has been walking holding two hands for a few months now. Sometimes she can walk just holding one (has only happened recently) but she is still pretty unsteady on her feet. She has also started pulling herself up and cruising furniture about 3 weeks ago and I think that is definately helping with her balance. I don't think she'll be properly walking anytime soon though!
