hiya

I used prefolds and covers for the first year ,mine are ecobots. www.ecobots.co.nz

I had 18 nappies in each of the four sizes, 6 nb covers. 5 infant covers., 5 toddler and 4 large.

I still use the large covers over the fitteds I use now.
They are cotton tots but you can't get those anymore.
Check out www.totsbots.co.nz
Also The Nappy Network has heaps of info

I personally would get a few dif bands to trial on bubs first as you don't want to be paying a huge amount then finding them not to be any good on your baby.

My fav brands are
Fuzzi Bunz, ecobubs and for a cheaper option i really like my baby first naps (from babycity/factory)
and i like pockets the best.

You can get hire kits to try out various types and brands, I'm sure weegee will tell you all about that! You can also have a squizz through the topics in this thread, to see what other people think of various brands. Also try The Nappy Network website, full of great info.

Hi Dino1. I am also new to cloth nappies but always wanted to use them. We have hired a coth nappy kit from Kete Kope (you can find lots of kits for hire on the nappy network site).

We have heaps of nappies to try - all different brands, fabrics and styles. We were advised to use disposables for the first few weeks just to settle into actually having a baby before having to think about getting your head around nappies etc. And I'm glad we did as Mia didn't fit some disposables as she was too small for them (birth weight of 2900gms). The lady added some newborn size cloth nappies into the kit. All nappy sizes are different so best to find the best type, style and size for your bubs (which you won't know until your baby arrives).

I would really reccomend either hiring a kit or buying trial size only before making your mind up and buying heaps/spending lots.

I thought I would like pocket nappies best, but I am leaning towards the Snap in Ones or lay in type ones as you don't have to change the whole nappy outer everytime. Re-stuffing pocket nappies when they are wet is gross.

Ecobubs wool pocket (i dont use the pocket but lay in a pad instead) are really good for over night as Mia is sleeping 6-8 hours over night at the moment. Swaddlebees (snap or velcro) pockets again, are great. Karma Kidz (used to be Rosie's) velcro all in ones are great as well. We have an Itti Bitti Snap in One on at the moment so we'll see how it goes.

Washing them is really easy. The hire kit came with Code Wash Balls which you just throw in the washing machine and are a natural detergent. And breastfed poo doesn't smell and rinses off real easy.

Good Luck

Hi, good on you for making the decision to go cloth!

Check out Cloth Nappy Love for all you need to know about cloth nappies and there is also a list of where you can buy all the brands from too.

I think that is why most people don't! Because the wee contacts the stay dry layer, the pockets need to be washed every time. But then they dry really fast so it isn't too much of a big deal.

OP, I second (third? fourth?) not buying all of one brand but looking into a hire kit instead so you can see what fits best. If you are happy to buy second hand look on TM and buy some of each brand that interests you.
