Topic: Grinding her teeth Posted: 08 August 2007 at 6:18pm |
Fay has 2 lower and 4 upper teeth.
We are just worried as she seems to have started grinding them today. It makes an awful noise and we are worried she will damage her teeth. I think Neil's reaction to it has made it worse as Fay does it now cos she thinks its funny to make her daddy react to it.
So is it normal for a baby to do this?
Will it damage her teeth?
If so, how can we stop her doing it? I have suggested that Neil ignore it but it seems to really set him off.
Any ideas

Hey,
Gabi used to do this too. It lastsed about 2 months. I ignored it as best I could so she would stop. I don't think her mum did anything to stop it but I'll talk with her next time I look after Gabi.

I cant wait to see Fay with all her teeth....Awww so cute I say I hope she stops this granding for you soon Claire. Mercedes grinds her teeth in her sleep and it drives me nuts!! I cant stand the sound as well as the fact that it is probably grinding down her teeth after prolong grinding .

jordis doesnt have any teeth yet, but i remember xanthe doing that when she had some - it actually made her gums bleed because of the sharp little teeth!! it was just a phase she went through.
have you tried distracting her whenever she starts doing it?
i imagine it would be just her way of relieving any discomfort in her mouth.

Han did it too. I'd say it's up there with my least favourite stage EVER.
Luckily it is a stage... she's just getting used to her teeth. She should get over it soon if she doesn't get attention for it.

Ugh, Ella did it too for a couple of months. I'd have rather she scratched up a chalk-board, I hated the sound so much! She just eventually got over it, in favour of making other weird noises. Fingers crossed, your wee Fay will stop doing it soon too.

Hey thanks guys. Nice to know our baby is not quite so weird.
I think ignoring and distraction are the way to go, but it is like nails down a blackboard for Neil, so she gets a wonderful reaction from Daddy.
I guess it is just a noise to take over from growling like a bear which she has done for a couple of months

Olivia did this, it is a stage thing. She ruined her teeth by getting chips in them though.
