I had a scan today - my 12th(!!!!) for the pregnancy as it is very high risk and I have numerous problems going on. So had the scan and sat down to talk to the doc about possible bedrest and steriods for bubs etc, only to be told that they found 2 potential problems on the scan that haven't been seen before. One was something in the brain (my head was spinning so didn't fully take in what was being said) it was meant to measure 10mm and measured 12mm and there was a shadow on the heart. The doc said just one on it's own they wouldn't even think twice about but because there is 2 then they are more concerned. They still said there is a fairly small chance of anything being wrong, around 3% but obviously still a risk. We were offered an amnio to be done tomorrow which we have turned down at this stage and we have an appt with another specialist on Monday who will be able to explain things better. Has anyone been through this? i don't understand how I can have 11 scans showing a perfectly healthy baby and then suddenly there are 2 issues? Most people don't even get a scan after 20wks so this wouldn't be an issue for them! I don't know what to think    I so just want to crawl into a hole right now, it's too hard

Measurements and such vary between who does them I've found. I've had extra scans because first off my bloods, then because of the heart and now because of growth and I've noticed that a sonographer can take a measurement, have an ob come in and do the same measurement and it comes out different.

I hope you get some answers on monday!!

aww Kelly!, I'm sorry you're going through this as you really don't deserve it after all you've been through.

I know someone who had a scan that showed a cyst on the brain, they rescanned 2 weeks later and it had gone. So here's hoping its nothing for you too. Good luck!

Hugs.. that is the sad downside of extra scans... they have more chance to "find" something that may very well not be there!

I guess as baby grows they see things more clearly?

I dont have any advice but just wanted to give you big, huge, hugs and I will keep everything crossed for you.

Totally agree with Stacey too... every person measures differently and if it was done by someone else it may very well have come out as 10mm!

Thanks guys    I did actually have 2 sonographers, the first one told me right at the beginning that she would do most of it then her supervisor would come and check the placenta and cervix which is where my problems are. I did notice the second one re-checking the brain and heart but didn't think anything of it at the time

No advice sorry except that if it helps you we've had 10 scans now and I've noticed that the measurements do tend to vary from person to person.

Remember that 2mm is a tiny margin of error and could just be the sonographer's twitch of the hand or something similar.

3% is a tiny chance that something is going to go wrong but they have to tell you about it - try your hardest not to stress too much about it and keep thinking about the 97% chance that everything is perfect at least until Monday when hopefully you can get some answers.

Try to think of it the other way around - there's at least a 97% chance that everything is all hunky dory

Trust your gut too, before the scan were your instincts that everything is going well with bubs despite everything? Even though JJ had numerous scans showing a potentially serious kidney abnormality (now he only has one functioning kidney) I strongly felt that everything was ok with him in utero (although if it had have been both kidneys instead of one he would have died) and sure enough he was fine. In fact if we'd never had scans with him we still wouldn't know about it.

With Addie I only had the anatomy scan to double check all the organs were plumbed in correctly this time, and we had one soft marker for abnormalities (bilateral choroid plexus cysts), I chose not to get worked up about it or google anything as I was told more often than not they resolve themselves. I guess they must have cos Addie is perfect

Just try to keep breathing and focus on the positive if you can
