Need some advice

I think the majority of us would rather be at home or doing other things than working! However in saying that I would go insane with boredom!!! I started a new job in Sept and told my boss that my partner and I were looking at trying to conceive this year, he was really cool about it. However in saying that I am lucky and that if I need to work from home for a while I can as I can access works computer network from home - alot of it is computer based and I work in Sales any way so I am not tied to the office.
I don't know how you feel about the home based care thing ie PORSE! It may be something to look into as when you have bubba you can look after your own while looking after others. I'm not sure what is involved but might be worth a look.
Also as you mentioned about computers (unsure what area) why don't you look at providing secretarial skills (assuming you have those kinds of skills). Perhaps make some phone calls to smaller type businesses to see whether you could provide a service rather than them having to employ somebody. There's probably a number of options, the skies the limit really depending on what you want to do. Long post sorry.

I have to agree with Chickielou, you can't put your life on hold. You have to keep things as normal as poss until you actually become preg. Hopefully it won't take ages but you never know.

Agree with the others - don't put your life on hold! I got pregnant a couple of weeks after starting my new job and they were really good about it and it was all fine Obviously you want it to happen quickly but you never know how long it's going to take to conceive. And even if you get pregnant straight away you'll still probably work there for 8 months or so - it's not like you're starting and then leaving a month later.

I have to agree with the others ... don't put your life on hold - it can take up to 12 months for a 'normal' couple to get pg and the average is around 6 months. So you could be working for anywhere from 8-20 months at a new job before baby arrives.

Also, I don't know your situation but it does seem a bit unfair on your DH.

Finally, if money is tight now, it will be that much tighter when you do have a baby. So working now will allow you to save some money and as long as you have been in your job 6 months you will be eligbile for paid maternity leave. And if you have been there 12 months they have to hold your job open for you for 12 months so you can take up to 12 months off after having a baby and if you decide you don't want to go back you don't have to - although you should probably tell your boss sooner rather than later once you make that decision.

And yes there are jobs you can do from home - just depends what you are into and what sort of work you want to do.

Do you have office skills? I'm an office temp at the moment got laid off last year, and haven't been able to find anything permanent.
The job I've got at the moment suits me fine, I"m covering for someone who has gone on maternity, and their is a second lady who is due in June so I'll be covering for her too.
It suits me fine as I will become a full time student once I'm on maternity leave, and this way I've got $$ coming in for the next 12-18 months while we TTC.

Why did you do your course, if you're not going to use it?

Winz are "on your case" for your own good! Take their advice and the advice of the ladies on here. If you can work, then work.There are people out there who would love to be in your position but can't work. If you are worried you won't enjoy it, do temping. Good luck!

I left my full time job 18 months ago in order to find something less demanding that I could do while being a mum. I now work as a freelance writer which means I'm at home a lot. Another thing I'm looking into is starting up something online. A lot of people make a living out of selling stuff on trademe and creating their own websites for small businesses etc. Perhaps there's something in that you might be interested in?

Starting a small business can cost a lot of money up front, but I do believe WINZ offers grants and can put you in touch with business mentors. There are a lot of people out there who are really keen on helping others hone in that entrepreneurial spirit all kiwis have.

Find what you're passionate about and make a living out of it.
