Topic: When did you resign from work? Posted: 29 July 2010 at 4:47pm |
For those that went on maternity leave and didn't return to work, when did you formally resign from your job?

Not until just before I was due to return back. I think about a month before I was due to return I gave notice.

I was made redundant and I was planning on returning BUT if we had decided i wasnt going back then I would have given my 4 weeks notice as soon as we decided AFTER PPL had finished... otherwise I would have lost it...

you cant resign until paid parental leave is up or else you lose it. if you resign during that is when the payments stop but you dont have to pay it back.

I took voluntary redundancy, but knew it was coming! I would have resigned 4 weeks before due to return, I was waiting as long as possible for the redundancy to happen.

you may already know but don't resign before your 14 weeks of pp leave is up or you don't get the payments. I resigned 4 months before due to return.

On the day that I was due to go back. They were pretty cool about it though, mainly because they had hired a permanent replacement and not some to cover my leave.

Yeah I know not to resign until PPL is up, I've got the whole 52 weeks, was wondering if I leave it to the end how that impacts on my record service when going for my next job IYKWIM?

It won't matter - that is what most people do anyway. It will just say that you left off your own accord after the birth of your child.

I resigned 4 weeks before I was due back at work. If you know now you're going to be resigning I would just hand my notice in soon as the PPL finishes.

I'm supposed to be going back in January, at this stage I'm 90% sure I won't. But, I want to keep the option open JIC so if I do decide not to go back I'll let them know in November probably (so they don't have that stress over the xmas period).

I resigned perhaps a month before I was due to go back. In my opinion it is best to keep your options open as long as possible 'cause who knows what might happen in the interim - even if you are pretty sure you don't want to go back.
In saying that though I was careful to be non-commital when I periodically spoke to my employers during maternity leave. I didn't want them relying on my actually coming back or not.

I know I'm definately not returning to work as we are moving cities when I go on maternity leave, I'm making sure I wait till after PPL, and wasn't really sure at what point between the end of that and the 52 weeks I will give notice.
I think unless something changes I'll resign after PPL is up.

Seeing you've changed cities it's pretty obvious to yourself that you aren't going back to that job. But like everyone else I didn't resign until a month or two before I was due to go back. Just in case I needed to.

I resigned 3 months before I was due back as I knew I wasn't returning and felt it was best to give the company the oppertunity to secure the girl who replaced me and for her to have a permanant contract earlier. Just seemed fairer.
