And it's two big pushes and the baby's out. No mention of birthing the placenta, it's all smiles, no perineal tears and no yucky stuff after.

If only it were like that

Mine broke with my first with a big pop and movie like gush as I bent over to pick up a towel after jumping out of the bath, quite convenient really as I was naked and on tiles. I didnt even go into labour until 2 days later thank fully I didn't know I was in labour until I was 5 cm so labour was nice and quick.

Mine were broken by the midwife in the hospital to try and speed things along.

I was in bed, no big gush though, contractions started hour and half later.

I was in bed too, it started off as a bit of pop and a trickle, then I had maybe a minute before it started to gush (so it would've been highly embarrassing had I been at the supermarket!)

It is unfortunate when the waters break first, cos like others found, the contractions started but labour didn't kick in properly, and hence I needed IV antibiotics and induction etc etc, where as if my waters hadn't broken, things might have progressed ok naturally.

It's definitely not a case of normal = waters break, baby pops out an hour or two later (how little TV/movies prepare you for real life!)
