Topic: Milk coming in with 2nd baby Posted: 08 February 2010 at 8:45pm |
Talking to a friend at CG the other day, she said 2nd and 3rd time mums tend to find their milk comes in way quicker than with the first. Has anyone found this (or the opposite)?
Just curious

Mine came in on day three, although I wondered if that was because I didnt go into labour, however the nurses all told me that it was perfectly normal for milk to come in on day three (it did with Issy too), so in my case no, it was the same.

Yeah, I'm hoping less than 6 days. Don't think I could handle that again. And I'd prefer to not get mastitis on day 2 of having milk if at all possible

Mine came in on day 2 with Ashley. However, she fed right through the night immediately after being born! It was tiring but well worth it to see her gain weight during her first week...she didn't lose at all. Awww, brings back memories of lying in bed all night staring at my wee Ashley. Cluck.
Will be hoping it happens faster for you when number 2 comes along.
edited as my spelling has gone to the dogs.

I honestly can't remember! I got mastitis this time around though. I don't think I had as big Pammies as I did last time.

Yeah, I want to do things differently next time - like not having a baby who has to be resusitated so no skin to skin, and I'd rather not keep fainting, which meant more no skin to skin. Hopefully that might help

I can't remember too clearly, my milk might have started coming in a little earlier with DD2 but not by much - maybe day 3 with DD1 and day 2 with DD2...? Sorry to be vague.

I cannot remember but I do remember I never got that engorgement with number two. They did get quite full but not rock hard agony like with the first. That may be more because I only had 4 months of no bfing between the two though, who knows.

Mine was day four with Sam and day two with Jamie.
I think it was earlier for me second time around because Jamie latched straight away and fed heaps in those first few days whereas Sam never latched even once so I was hand expressing for a while until the hospital let me use the breast pump on day three I think it was.

for me it started to come in day three and properly that night.. they seemed surprised cause i had c section but it was the same time as with Ethan? but yeah they did say to me very common to have it happen earlier with 2nd..that would have been handy as heffalump is way bigger and hungrier:)
yeah i had Liam feeding a lot more and a lot of skin to skin which i didnt get with E..though it was only a few mins in theatre was 6 hours after.. :) but yeah rach i never got that either wondered if it was normal.. !(the engorgement!)
flissty- i feel the same...although both were emergencies this time things were a bit different and at least got him a little bit before i felt sick and wasnt shaking like a crazy person all the time! :)
