Topic: Raspberry leaf Posted: 29 January 2010 at 5:24pm |
I took this last time form 36weeks, R was 5 days late. Did it work didn't it I don't know. But anyway I asked MW this week whether I should bother and she said yeah I could just take them, I don't do 'erbal teas. I think I got it from heath 2000 and it cost $25 for about 30 or 40 tabs and was to take 1 per day. I've jusrt been up to Hardy's and its $35 for the same amount but to take 2 tabs 3 times a day talk about pill popping. I looked at the chemist and theres was $14 and it was 1 tab per day. What have you lot got and how much was it. I really can't justify $35 for somethign that I'm not sure even worked.

I think what Raspberry Leaf tea does is help tone and/or strengthen the uterus. I don't think it helps get the baby out quicker or anything like that. Oh, I've also heard that it can help with intensity of labour.
I guess you just research the benefits and decide if it's worth it.
All the best.

I took Blackmores RLT and for memory it was about $15.00 for 84 tablets. I was talking one tablet 3 times a day, despite the label saying 3 tablets 4 - 5 times a day
I started taking it at 36 weeks and Jackson was born at 38 weeks.

i had the tea you get from the supermarket - i think PNS were the only ones i could find it in...or maybe New world. I think it is recommended you take it only after 34 weeks in case it induces labour....in saying that my births were 14 days late and 10 days late.
Not sure if it does anything BUT for my first baby, I had a posterior birth - which generally takes longer, yet my labour was just over four hours. i was fully dilated within 3. And baby two was 2 hours. So while i have noidea whether it works, I will take it with baby three.
Add honey to the drink though. i don't do herbal teas either, but honey made it palateable

I have no idea what it costs - although I seem to remember the tea bags seeming fairly pricey. I did do the research on it though when I was pregnant with Ollie - it won't help induce labour but it does help make contractions more efficient thereby potentially reducing the length of the second stage of labour (I don't think it was statistically significant but there was clear difference between women who took it and women who didn't). It also contains loads of vitamins and minerals including iron (which was one of the reasons I decided to try it).
I have no idea whether it made a difference for me or not but Ollie was born after an 8 hour labour and Stella was an hour all up from first contraction to birth.

I've got Red Seal raspberry leaf tea, it was $3ish for 25 tea bags from New World. Most supermarkets don't stock it, but New Worlds all seem to.
I find it actually tastes quite nice with a squirt of honey in it. Without the honey it's just a bit bland.
My reasoning for taking it is it's not expensive and even if it does nothing, it's not a complete waste because it is still good for you. And if it does work, well that's pretty darn useful!

I think the tea tastes fine but I like green tea and to me its similar to green tea.
Not sure if it will help but I'm willing to try anything safe that might help out when labour starts
