I agree the crowning was not painful for me last time, think I was sooo relieved that the baby was actually coming out at last after throwing up for the past 5 hours.

Definately the contractions were the most painful part, not looking forward to those, but as pople have said, you get a beautiful baby at the end of it and you know the pain will end so its all worth it , thats why we are repeat offenders!!

haleighsmum, just because you had forcepts does not mean you didn't birth your baby....I too had to end up with forcepts after 3 hours of pushing DD just was stuck and we needed a little bit of extra help.
In my opinion, you did birth your beautiful baby, just because somebody helped pull her out doesn't take anything away from you and all the hard work you went through to get to that point

i hated the whole procedure, contractions were the most painful thing id experienced but it was also the fear of not having any control over them, then the crowning was definetly not a pleasent experience but at least it was over quicker than the contractions.
I also found it rather (as in very very) sore when the midwife gave me an injection in my vagina to numb it before sewing, i would have jumped off the bed but the sneaky midwife had given me caitlyn to hold ....crafty b*tch

sunnyhoney , dont let yourself worry too much about the labour, youve still got a while to go, and while labour isnt that pleasent (but better for some than others) you wont know how your own labour will be till your in it, pregnancy is an exciting time, have fun (apart from feeling sick, backache, heartburn etc) it'll be over before you know it

Yeah I know, I just thought it might be a good idea to be prepared for the worst. I'm definitely looking forward to baby arriving and I know it won't be a picnic, but it doesn't mean I don't want to go there. If I didn't I shouldn't have got pregnant huh!! It's exciting to watch everything change! :)

contractions are the worst the rest went so fast.

when it was time to push wasnt any pain that i can recall (had no pain releif at pushing stage mw took my gas away so i could concentrate on what was happening) crowning really stings especally when mw is saying dont push when that is all you want to do to get pain to go away.

Well if there's any advice I can give your newbies, it would be (as dumb as it sounds), read into all the options, put your preferred one into your birth plan with your mw, but at least if any surprises come you know what you're talking about. Then just let it all rest because there's nothing you can do about it, talk your concerns over with your mw (especially in labour), and you'll come through. Often if you start to freak out, the mw will be able to say "this is the worst part" or "you're almost there" and that's really reassuring.

LOL Teresa, my midwife was veeeeeery supportive - with Maya I was screaming "I can't do this anymore", and she said, very matter-of-factly "It's a bit late for that now!"

I agree, I read so much and decided that I was going to be calm as going into things with Andrew, well it didn't go all to plan as I was induced but everytime someone told me that labour was going to hurt (mostly people that didn't have children), I would remind them that I get a good result at the end and to my friends who said it: You haven't done it so don't have much to say about it.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

True, Becks, True. Yes, it does hurt, ALOT, and there is not much you can do about that, so you just have to get on with it and do it and remember that it is only one day, and look what amazing awesome results come form all that pain, and you really DO forget about it (the pain)afterwards, honestly!

i can't really comment on this after having 2 c/s babies....but.....alot of you are saying the contractions were painful, to me, they weren't. i guess i am one of the lucky ones that had an easy labour, which didn't end up the way i wanted.
the only thing you can really count on in childbirth is.....it will eventually be over and won't last forever

i am sad that i will never be going through it again and to all the upcoming new mummies......be as relaxed as you can be and also be prepared for things to not go as you planned
all in all, the end result definately is worth it...although it may not seem like it at the start

Hi there, the lost painful part of labour/birth for me was one the crowning and then when my daughters head was coming out she turned and tore me and felt every tear!!

I tore badly, and really the worst for me was the stitching up afterwards. Yep, the contractions were painful, and pushing was difficult (I was apparently minutes away from having an assisted delivery - forceps or ventouse), but at least they had a purpose!
My tears were a little worse than "standard" though, I guess - was stitched up in the delivery suite for over an hour before they decided I had to have general anesthetic and go down to surgery for them to finish off (another hour of stitching, I believe).

But, hey, it was only about a week ago, and I'm already doing pretty well. Not quite ready to try that again in a hurry, but it really is worth it!

Contractions were the worst for me, they were so close together for almost the whole labour I wasn't getting any breaks. The pushing was a huge relief and I didn't feel anything when DD crowned, so I guess it is different for everyone. I'd take more pushing over contractions any day!
