Topic: No two pregnancies the same? Posted: 24 March 2009 at 8:36am |
Has anyone else found it really disconcerting that your second (or third etc) pregnancy is really different from your first? What I mean is that I have had very little symptoms, only a small amount of MS (although I do have my seabands on 24/7) but no headaches or anything.
With my first I had wicked headaches, MS where I threw up every day, if not more than once a day, I was constantly exhausted. This time I feel ok most of the time, yes I do feel tired usually about mid morning to mid afternoon and certainly not like first time around.
I guess I am finding it hard because I haven't seen my specialist yet, my GP is just useless and I am not having a scan till 12 weeks. I can't help but think dark thoughts, wondering if things are actually ok in there. I am just hoping for some reassurance that I am not mad and that things will probably be ok even though I feel so different this time around!

Firstly you are not mad.
Okay the doctor probably won't do anything because you are having a normal pregnancy so far which is great. If you had a bleed or cramping then the GP would sent you for an earlier scan and maybe do HCG blood tests.
I felt so different this time around than from my DD. With her I had no MS, one bad headache and nothing much else until I could feel the baby move. The I was pregnant 2 years ago. Very different pregnancy. Lots of MS and headaches and we lost that baby at 16 weeks. There was no indication as to the cause. Now with this one I am 27 weeks and had alsmost the same symptoms as with the last pregnancy which as you can imagine totally freaked me out.
Hang in there. You don't have a lot of time to go before the OB appointment and scan. It's all perfectly normal and it's normal for your feelings to be like that too.

Yer same here, was sick as with Caden, but this baby hardly at all, just slight nausea.
I was worried something was wrong this time, but I even had a bleed and cramps at 8 weeks and things were fine!

yep , totally different here too , with C I had vomitting morning sickness til 8 months, heartburn at 7 months , glowing skin , and lots of energy .
This time , I threw up only twice (waste of blimming food ! ) , got heartburn from 5 months , my skin is like that of a 3rd former , and im ready for bed ...well, now actually , its after 10 am .
The best thing tho , is that you usually feel baby a lot earlier, I know I did

Ha, me too! This pregnancy is so weird compared to Samantha's.
To be honest most days I don't even feel pregnant. I do have some morning sickness and sore boobs, but apart from that....nothing! With Sam I was just so aware of being pregnant and I was soooo sick!
I did get an early scan for dating purposes and seriously wouldn't have been at all surprised if they had told me I was crazy and not pregnant at all!

THANK goodness its not just me! *sigh of relief* Honestly, I seriously feel like that too. Hardly pregnant. Its VERY disconcerting.
I also had an exam by a doctor yesterday who wondered about dates because he couldn't feel the top of the uterus which he expected to be able to do at 8 weeks. Makes me query if implantation took a while and maybe I am only 7 weeks or something. I have asked for a dating scan today and the nurse is ringing me back. It might put my mind at ease a little more.

Yay for the dating scan. Boo for doctors!
I saw my midwife yesterday and she just said it was too early to bother feeling around for the size of my uterus or to listen to the heartbeat as they are so well tucked up and vary so much at this stage of pregnancy.
I expected that, but bascially now just have to wait nearly a month until my next scan to re-prove to myself I am actually pregnant!
I'm sure things are just fine though for both of us.
It is a seriously a big relief to know I am not the only one who feels this way

My first 2 were very alike! - bad sickness and aversions till 6ish months, hugely tired!, terible skin, ugly hair! etc but this time i didnt even know until i was like 7 weeks! and i only had the odd occasion of feeling yuck, no sore boobs, nice skin and hair and no food aversions etc.
