This is brilliant to know - we're booked in for an acupressure class this afternoon, and I've been wondring how effective it will be.

I got taught the induction points during my antenatal yoga class - will definitely try them! I've also been told there's a really good homeopathic remedy that you take from 36 weeks (several times a week). The MW of a friend swears by it - she's recommended it for over 5 years and in that time has never needed to induce anyone who's used it. |
Whats the homeopathic remedy??
Thanx for the link, im going to download the booklet now

Lol I'm guessing you didn't use it Flissty, seeing as Daniel was 2 weeks late!
I used 5W capsules, and while they didn't make Natalie come on time, I think they may have contributed to my fast active stage of labour....

LOl, just seen my comments resurrected. NOTHING WORKS. Daniel was 2 weeks late, and only arrived after 4 days of hard drugs (i.e induction) - nothing was moving his bony ass!
He ended up being sucked out w ventouse.
But anyways ....It's called pre birth mix - relief 30c. pulsatilla, cimicifuga, gelsemium, caulophyylum.
I've suggested to DH that I could start taking it now, that way when I have #2 (in about 3 years), it might come on time.

My antenatal leader just emailed thru alternative pain relief, and acupressure was one of them.
I think I'm going to try this. I'll make DH read that booklet.
I like the idea of using a marker to mark the points, then it takes the guess work out of it on the day!

Oo yay I like it when I see this thread bumped! Honestly acupressure got me through labour not needing any drugs or even gas, I think it's amazing.
Hmm Amber I just clicked on the link and it worked for me... then had to click 'download'.....?

I printed out the booklet and tried a few points a LOT during the end of my pg, I was 8 days over. I'm not totally convinced it works to induce labour, but no harm in trying either.
As for during labour, I can't really give any insight as to whether it helps as pain relief as I forgot all about it! Luckily I had a straightforward labour gave birth with no drugs or interventions

My mw uses these when ladies are in labour already, not beforehand. I guess they are effective but wouldn't really know LOL

OK so here's a question for those who have used this for pain relief -
When your/DH are practising how do you know if your hitting/pressing the right spot????? i mean if you slightly off it will be useless wont it?? I read that you don't feel the full effects of the relief until your actually in labour so how do you practice???

We didn't practise at all - DH just looked at the diagram and pressed and I told him if it felt ok or not! I don't know how I 'knew' it was right, it just felt better and the pain wasn't as bad.
If you know someone who's a physio or has done acupressure, you could visit them beforehand just to get them to check your DH has got the pressure points right.
I really recommend the comb one too, that helped heaps - also cos it gave me something to do when I had contractions.
