I waited until I was about 10 weeks and had heaps of trouble finding one as they were all booked. Ended up with a new grad m/w Luckily we shifted part way through pregnancy and we use our GPs as LMC here.

Sometimes it depends on the time of year you're due - some months are busier for midwifes.  But I can't believe they told you it was too early!!  You were right to try to arrange one when you did - hope you get a better result next time you call them!

i was told at seven weeks to make sure i had one...and funny but the few i rang were already pretty well booked up...then my specialist told me the other day he had turned down 30 women due Dec / jan / Feb due to him being on leave over xmas....seriously!!!
I cant believe how busy they get...
