I know it's more of a muslim name, and that you have both hindu and muslim family members... but what about Zain as a boys name? I have a friend whose brother is Zain, and have always liked the sound of it...

I find boys' names really hard too. I guess that's just because I've only had girls? (but we didn't know that until "the day") So I guess this one must be a girl too...
Initials are very important! Our Briona was nearly BRA so - whoops! - we quickly added another second name in there (Briona Stacey Ruth A) just to fix that tinsey winsey problem
All the best, Frantic!

We had tons of girls names and only one boy's name both times. Jake was after "the blues brothers" with his middle Walter - my deceased grandfather. Taine was...wel we got the idea from Taine Randall but I would hard;y say we named him aftre him.
Girls names - we had lots and it was really hard. Lewis' mum wanted us to use a Maori middle name, grandmother wanted a Rarotongan middle name and we were keen on a Japanese middle name. Luckily Taine was a boy and now his bro is havinga little girl whose middle name will be Roimata (so if we have a girl next, she should be sated by that!)

my hubby always rhymes the name and tries to see if he can make up names with the name before agreeing to the name. My friend wants 'Hope' but DH said but what if its no good at sports and stuff they will call it 'hopeless'. so needless to say the name we have picked out (which I can't say cause then it will give the flavour away) does not rhyme with anything ...yet...

he he yeah, my dh does that too - I love the name Bo for a girl but then hubby pointed out the whole "Bo the Ho" rhyme and that sort of killed my enthusiasm for that LOL! But maybe as a second name...???

Even if you don't have a name you're both sure of before she's born, Frantic - there's nothing wrong with choosing a name afterwards! Plenty of babies are names a few days later (and at least that way if you'd be one to want to keep the name a secret until it's a done deal, there's noooo chance of accidentally blabbing it beforehand! he he).
We found the baby name book and online lists useless for us, and ended up just chucking names out there every now and then. Funny thing is we started with all the names from family members that we could think of, before finding out that neither of us actually wanted to use a family name unless it was one that we loved as a name already! In the end, there was only one first name that DH and I agreed on for a girl (never got that far with a boy's name), and the middle name is an old family one that we'd both agreed on ages ago (it goes through the generations plenty so I'd say we're not the only ones in the family to think like that), and hearing how it fitted with the first name, it all just fell into place. We still chuck random names at each-other but never agree on them and come back to the one we've chosen. I hadn't realised how popular the name was, so did try to find another one, but it just didn't work!!! She's known as that name in my mind already so I think that's why.

My sister was nameless until she was nearly a month old...
I think everyone knows how I named Maya (after a poet Maya Angelou), the name just came to me and stuck. Grace I just liked and Willie picked Te Irirangi Marama.
Wth the twins, we named Mercedes first, as soon as I told Willie they were girls he said he was naming one of them Mercedes because he drives a Mercedes truck (really glad that he doesn't drive a Volvo!). Sienna was harder as I've always loved the name, but I knew it would upset a friend (as I'm sure we all also know lol) but in the end I decided bugger it - I have to live with calling my daughter that for the rest of her life, and no other names seemed to fit.
Sienna is Sienna Marie Anahera, Marie after my Mum and sisters middle names, and Anahera meaning angel which Willie picked.
Mercedes is Mercedes Something Waimarie, Waimarie means peaceful waters which I think is beautiful, but we're having trouble coming up with a middle name. Toying with Kailah atm - my mum really likes it.

Nathaniel was nameless for the first 10 days of his life... he doesn't mind, he says that it makes his name even more special because his parents were waiting for the "right" one.

One of my coffee group mums didn't have a name for her daughter for over a month! Her and her hubby couldn't decide.
We had a list of 3 names for each sex, and it was hard coming to that list, as we have very different tastes. We decided that we would see what baby looked like, before we named baby. He was definately a Jacob. A compromise, i wanted jake (after blues brothers, as well,Liz!) I didn't tell anyone the names we had picked, and we won't this time either, and we are going to find out the sex, as my dad isn't expected to live for very much longer, so we will find out and tell him and mum, but no one else. Names are harder, this time round, as I have gone off the rest of the names on our list... *sigh*
If its a boy, i'm plumping for Elwood... (joke, blues brothers fan...)

yeah I guess we could wait a while before naming baby, but I must admit I like the idea of having a name or a few names ready so that as soon as she gets here we can say "blah blah has arrived!!!" and not "baby has arrived" - silly I know... but anyway, still a few weeks away so perhaps we will find something by then...
