Tracey, both lilfatty and I had low lying placenta's at our anatomy scans too.
I wonder if it's more common than we realise. Definitely nothing to worry about. I read up on placenta preavia after my scan so I could be prepared jic but by the 32 wk scan the placenta had moved up and 7 weeks later I had a very quick natural vb.

My friend who is at 38 weeks now also had a low lying placenta still at her 32 scan and there was all this talk then about placenta previa and c-sections but it moved by the 36 weeks scan so she's back on track for a vb, so I'm going with it being really common I think.
Thanks.

Mine was low lying as well at the 19 week scan but happily had moved up at the 32 week scan, so it seems that most do move up and away.
hopefully yours does as well

Tracey I got told yesterday that mines low lying as well, and to go back at 32 weeks for a re-check...
and as someone else said earlier in thread, mines all down the front too, so yikes if I end up with the elective (had a c-section with DS) cos they'll have to cut through to get to bubs... eep!
I wonder if it will still move if its attached to where the c-section scar would be on the inside???

Pleased I found this, was wondering what the chances of it moving was. Was told at our last scan to get them to check to see if it had moved when we get the 20 wk scan done.

I was told at ny 20 week scan that i had a low placenta and that I would need a 30 week scan - 2 weeks later I saw my specialist and he checked with his own scan andsaid that it wasn't the case at all - so either someone was wrong or it moved in that 2 weeks alone??? I read up on this when i thought it might be a problem and pparently the placenta moves enough in about 90% of cases - fingers crossed for everyone it does - uless you want a c-sec of course!! lol

I've been told that I have a low placenta too. Though the scan lady wasn't worried about it at all, so that was good, I never thought to check at all out.
When I told my mum she said had Placenta P and that's why she had an emergency c-sect with my younger brother. As they scan technology wasn't nearly as good they had no idea and my mum and bro almost died from the internal bleeding. So i'm glad we have scans these days!
Also just wondering, if it doesn't move for those of you with the placenta at the front, couldn't they make the cut up n down? I remember reading that it's better being cut that way as it's going where the muscles are already split so it heals better, they just don't as most women don't want an even more obvious scar.
I'm sure we will all be fine though, I didn't mean to get any one worried, I'm just glad we will know, unlike my mum is all.

I would have thought that a lateral cut would be worse given that they would have to cut through the whole placenta in order to get to baby, rather than just the lower portion of it... or maybe its just me and my wierd logistics understanding of it all lol
Its going to be a loooong wait to 32 weeks, still got a whole 12 weeks to go LOL!

Oh yea, I was imagining it really low and across the exit, I guess it would just depend on the person.
I'm having mine at 33 weeks, it is going to be a long wait, but i'm excited about the extra scan

Hi I was told that I had a complete previa at 20 weeks and that it wouldnt move enought to have a natural birth. I was told not to lift any thing, no sex and only gentle excersise for fear of a bleed at my 32 week scan ( had a few in between which is cool to see bubs devolping ) to every bodys huge surprise it had moved away far enough for a natual birth which is what I had with an awesome two hour labour Kaitlin was born on the 11/11/08 I know its easy for me to say now but dont stress about things out of your control cause I did every time I went to the loo I expected to see blood it really made the weeks drag

They probably could do an up and down cut, but these scars def don't heal better - they are more prone to rupturing during later pregnancies/labours.
