Maybe you ladies might know what has gone wrong here.

We brought my DH some grey cotton work pants with a faint stripe. The first time he wears them he comes home with some tiny blue ink stains near the bottoms. I didn't think it would come out but used sunlight soap then soaked overnight in a bucket with a bit of washing power and nappisan. I washed them this morning and went to hang them out. The ink stains are gone but now there are yellowish patches all over them. Any idea what happened and if it can come out? I hung them on the line this morning hoping that the sun might bleach it out but it is overcast here today.

Argh, what a waste of pants!

My guess would be that the materail wasn't colour safe and the combo of soaker and washing powder removed the colur in places prehaps where it wasn't dissolved properly.

You could try taking them back. SIL put stain remover on a top and something similar happened. They replaced the top for her

Eek I wouldn't use sunlight soap on anything coloured, sorry to tell you. It has a bad reputation for bleaching things. And in future, never put anything in direct sunlight that's had any stain remover type agent on it - you're playing with fire.

Still - sucky about the pants

Good thinking but my DH is a short ass so I've taken them up as well.

They are a light grey colour so I thought maybe I'd try to dye them a darker colour, no harm in trying.
