Topic: Mirena and other stuff??? Posted: 10 April 2009 at 5:07pm |
Question for those with Mriena's:
The other stuff, I am going to be having my 3rd hystroscopy next month, this time I am getting polyp's removed. Anyone had this happen??
And the other stuff, bladder banding. I am getting my bladder banded because I have irritable bladder (a result of stress and urge incontinence), anyone had this on anyone they know had this done?? Anything they can say about it??
Thanks

I know of some people that had the mirena. Some say it lightened their periods, other say it made it worse.
I know the biggest problem why people removed it in the end was due to unexplained weightgain. Everyone said it isnt the mirena but as soon as they got rid of it the weight got of again without any changes in lifestyle ect.
Me personally I havent tried the mirena at all.

i had a mirena for 5 years (was removed 4 years ago) - had it put in due to excessive painful bleeding - loved having it had absolutely no problems with weight gain, had no periods at all, and when it came out my periods returned to normal (every 28 days) with none of the issues before the mirena
did however put on weight after it came out so not sure if it was that or relationship issues!
i think it is like anything that adds hormones to the body everyone reacts differently - i had a dreadful time with BCPs however this worked for me
good luck and i hope you get everything sorted

my sister has one in at the moment and it getting it removed soon. she has had almost continuos spotting or periods almost the entire time and has out on alot of weight too (she works for a weightloss centre so not due to her overeating etc...) she had a breakdown a few weeks ago, she has had a rough time in the last couple of years but her doctor was really angry her specialist never told her about the connection to anxiety/panic disorders that have been linked with it so if you have any slight mental history i would be very wary. i dont know anyone else who has one so this is all i can offer im afraid but im sure there are plenty of ppl out there who has used them successfuly with no problems.

Hi Becks, I haven't had one but have been researching whether or not to get the Mirena or a plain old copper IUD once Ava's arrived in August
For the start, I'm going with the copper as I don't want a hormonal form of birth control as have been off them since 2006. Any extra hormones in my system play up and there's no evidence that says Mirena is any better from that respect.
I figure that with the copper, if I bleed heavily then I'll just get it taken out and a Mirena put in (although of course my issue is I don't get AF and when I do its pretty full on so wouldn't notice much difference lol)
The thing that the Mirena would be great for you for would be to help with your periods. I know you have a terrible time with them and Mirena's recommended for people with endo etc to help stabilise as its meant to reduce it all. Of course you can get spotting etc but sometimes that outweighs the benefits.
Unfortunately you won't know until you try, but ask your GP or spec if you can get it subsidised as apparently some people can (I think I can so pretty sure you would be able to!)
Sorry don't know anything about the polyps. Good luck hun

My insurance company is going to be paying for it so my spec says. We did talk about a plain copper one but I don't need to bleed anymore than what I am at the moment.

Well I have a mirena and love it. I had it put in when Caprece was 12 weeks, so have had it for a year and a half. I spotted almost non stop for 4 months maybe (can't really remember) and then had no bleeding at all for 8 months probably and now I get regular periods but very light. I use a mooncup but could get away with panty liners I just don't like them. My periods used to be relatively heavy for a day or so so its way better for me.
I did have a few random cramps that I'm guessing came from it but nothing now. I haven't had any weight issues and don't think I have any mental heath issues lol. To be honest the piece of mind is so worth having it, I don't want another baby right now.

I got one put in on Wednesday along with the rest of he stuff that was done to me (yay for the insurance company footing the bill).
So another question for you that have had one or still have one in. After you got it put in how long till it didn't feel like anything was there. I am so hoping this is normal as it feels kinda strange there at the moment. I am hoping that it is a compination of the mirena and the op I had done.
I also found out that my heavy bleeding is all hormonal so the mirena should really help. My gyne said that if the bleeding doesn't stop (after the settling down period), then I will get my hystorectomy!!!

I had the copper one fitted and for about 6 weeks I felt a bit crampy like I was about to get AF, or even that early preggie heavy feeling might be a better description. I also had spotting for a week after it was fitted but none since.

Hey Becks - has your specialist tried prescribing you Tranexamic Acid tablets? - they are suppose to lessen the bleeding with your menstrual cycles, I take mine 3 times daily for days 1-5 of my period, it lessens the bleeding quite considerably.
My gyne prescribed them to me after my laparoscopy because I still have 7-9 day periods with the first 5 days being really heavy.
I do actually recall her mentioning the Mirena though as another alternative, Insurance companies cover the cost of a Mirena if you're anaemic enough (from blood loss) I was told. I wasn't comfortable about getting something put up my fufu, and since I'm not sexually active I didn't see the point if i could just have the tabs instead.
*Hugs chick* Glad to hear you're back home from your op and hopefully the outcome is good and you wont need the hysterectomy for a while yet!

No that drug was never mentioned, but I have tried almost everything under the sun to control the bleeding, and nothing has worked.
You can get the Mirena subsidised if your iron levels are low enough thou Sheering, but my insurance company paid for the mirena as I needed it for reasons other than a contraceptive, using it for that reason was the last thing on my mind.

That's good they covered the cost of it though, much better than having to fork out the $500 for it - here's hoping it works! Let us know.

I still feel a bit crampy and bloated at random times of the month. It doesn't seem related to times in my cycle so I think its just having something in there. I've had mine just under 2 years.

Im really struggling with my Mirena. I have had it in for 4 weeks and have been having really bad knee joint and back pain. Then I started getting really bad feelings of falling of a cliff type depression, then back up and then having nightmares of the possessed type. Its not like me at all. I feel really dizzy and lightheaded and my weight is up and down (3 kilos in a day). Is it me? Or has this happened to anyone else? I can cope with the random bleeding, I dont feel it, I really want it to work, but I feel really strange and panicky all the time. It must be the Mirena because nothing else in my life has changed apart from that. Has anyone else had this problem?

I would be talking you whoever put it in as that doesn't sound quite right. I had mine put in, in May and haven't had any problems with it at all. I love the no heavy period as mine is 1 day a month of very very light bleeding and no spotting.
