Yup same one ! We asked her twice to stop (coz it's not like we'd ever said it was OK in the first place!) and we still reckon she kept doing it up until just before she moved out.

Best of luck with quitting - we're all here for you !!

Rodney's flattie before I moved in used to smoke in his room (now jacobs room) and even after a year, the curtains still smelled, even used febreeze on them, they were gross and it made the whole room stink, so i got new curtains just before Jake was born.

My SIL and brother are both VERY heavy smokers and they never stopped, nor do they leave the room, or stop smoking to cuddle their son. Poor boy has rotten asthma and ecxema like we did (our parents smoked around us)and they can't see that it owuldn't be so bad if they had a smokefree home and took their filthy habit outside.
Pet hate - seeing people cuddling their kids with a fag, BUT holding it "away" from them yeah, like that is going to stop them breathing it all in!
Even though my olds smoke outside, their house smells foul from their smoky clothes etc (they are heavy smokers too). I hate the way we smell after being their, and the whole thing makes me realise how yuck we must have smelt at school.
Sorry about the rant, I'm the only non smoker in our family, I HATE it. Even when we were dirt dirt poor (soup and taost for a week once) they STILL smoked. Now my dad is dying of lung cancer, and they are ALL still smoking. I'd love to see it banned, too.

My mum used to be a 2 pack a day smoker, but she quit cold turky when she found out she was pregnant with me. Dad used to poke needle holes through the filters to encourage her to quit!

I never really smoked, mainly because Dad said that if he ever caught me he'd make me chain smoke 2 packs!

i really hate it when people smoke around ella too, and me now that i'm pregnant again too. it just seems so inconsiderate. a couple of weeks ago ella and i were sitting in a bus shelter and it was raining. this young guy comes in and lights up filling the whole shelter with his smoke. i asked him politely to go outside, and he did, after calling me a f'ing b!tch.
lol becca, your mum must have been so confused when all the smoke started coming out the sides of her filters!
best of luck for quitting in june caitlyn's mum, i gave up so many times and always started again within 6 months. having ella was the best motivation for me, i'll never go back to it now. (husband would kill me first i think!)

Really - I thought it was the strangest thing for a midwife to say to a pregnant woman - better for baby that you keep smoking!! I thought that the girl I know was lying but this is obviously something that lots of people have been told. Its really weird!!

I think its an excuse from themselves personally. I know heaps of people that have stopped smoking when pregnant and their kids are fine!

I think smoking when pregnant and using an excuse like they arent allowed to stop is just selfish and makes me mad!!!

Smoking is one thing, and bad enough, but don't get me started on drinking... I knew a chicky who found out when she was already three months along and kept up smoking, drinking and weed !

Jax - thats exactly what my face did when I read your post!! Thats shocking and so irresponsible. It makes me sad hearing those stories when I know so many people (myself included) who want babies soooooo much and are having troubles conceiving and are taking care of themselves etc etc and then there are those people who are pregnant and just don't care.

aaaaarrrggghhhh I cant believe how terrible some people are!!
I was a smoker and loved smoking, but the day i found out i was pg i quit. it was and still is horrible, i still crave it - esp when i am all emotional and have had a hard day. But i would never smoke knowing i was pregnant!NEVER!
As for stopping causing more stress i dont believe that at all! I'm sorry I just dont. I think it's an easy way out! And I am a perosn who loves smoking, really i do, but thats taking the excuses too far!

oh man u guys wouldnt believe some of the things ive come across, being at bethany and knowing so many young mums-there was the 14year old girl who came back and had drunk a whole bottle of jim beam-i had such a go at her about fetal alcohol syndrome but she didnt give a rats arse.
I knew another girl who -this is pretty bad so be prepared for a shock-would LEAVE her 6MONTH old daughter in her cot by herself while she went out for a couple of hours to meet up with people from hot gossip and smoke weed.....needless to say her child got taken off her.

Did anyone see that doco a while ago on teenmums in england and there were the 2sisters and all they did when they were pregnant was sit there smoking and dats all they did after the babies were born?
No wonder us young mums get a bad rep!

My friend smoked for a bit until i printed off an article of exactly how much it damages baby in the womb and she quit cold turkey and isnt planning on going back

Makes me mad too-so many deserving people who would love to be parents and so many kids that deserve to have them -not the ones theyve got

Sorry bout the novel

It does give young mum's a really bad name and its a shame. I was 17 when I had my son and the looks you get!! I think I did a fantastic job with him and he is a great kid but - people judge you and think that you are "one of those" girls...
I agree Frantic about the excuse thing - if it was more harm to a baby to be stressed then they wouldn't have warnings on the cigarette packets about smoking when pregnant - they would have warnings on the door to work
"if you are pregnant, do not enter this workplace - stress may cause harm to your unborn baby. Turn around and go home and lie in bed"...if only
