Hey ladies
Im seriously thinking about finishing off my degree this year, part time. I cant do it from home due to the nature of the course, so it means having jackson and janaya in care for 2 - 3 days a week.
I went onto the WFF website to try and calculate how much childcare subsidy we are entitled too, and when I put in "student", it said that I would have to call studylink because I was to be studying.
Now, does this mean we will be entitled to more/less subsidy because im not working?
Also, if im studying part time that means i cant get living costs... is there anything else we can be entitled too apart from WFF? DH earns over the $788 per week threshold

As you said you will be studying part time you won't be seen as a student in their eyes. A student for them is fulltime and getting the student allowance (can only get it if studying fulltime).
When applying for the the childcare subsidy you will just need a letter from your institute you are studying at stating you are studying with them and they will usually put on the number of hours of work your study is.

Yep the childcare subsidy is about 1.50 (or is it 3.50) an hour anyway its some rediculous amount like that.
DH is studying next year (he is currently a SAHD). He cant get a student allowance as I earn way over the threashold AND we dont qualify for WFF (grr)
Anyway I digress ..
He can borrow a living component of 155 a week on top of the loan for the fees and course costs, so I would think that could be an option for you.

No you won't be able to get the living costs on your loan either because you are only studying part time. It will also pay to check that your course is enough points as mine wasn't and I couldn't even get a loan for course costs. You won't be entitled to an allowance or anything extra from WINZ. What I recommend is applying for every scholarship you can, there are a few out there for childcare.
The subsidy is completely around your DHs income. If you are entitled to any subsidy you get 9 hours regardless and then you will need proof of your study to get any more.

Yep based on his income. But the number of hours you get will be based on the number of hours you are studying (well what your institute says you should be).

DH will be a full time student but he will only have to do full days on campus (which means he is eligable for a full student loan and costs etc)
Could you work your timetable to be fulltime but work it so your tutorials etc are on two or three days?

I think full time is based on how many points or whatever your course is rather than how many hours you actually have to go to uni. I think I was there about 12 hours a week while doing my B.A. and that was definitely considered full time study (because of course you're meant to be doing all that work outside of classes lol).

I really want to study but i'm scared I'll not want to go halfway thru because I miss thomas too much. I started doing a BA in creative art & sculpture a few years ago and had to leave due to my parents splitting and dad going mental, so I wanted to finish it. Cant do it extramurally so I'd have to go into canterbury uni (ugh) to do it. And its full time! How do you studiers cope!

Miss Angel, I did the same thing, I left half way through my 3rd year due to me and DH having some issues and other things. Now 3 years later ive decided to finish it. I started studying when Janaya was tiny and I found I wasnt away too much from her, definately not as bad as working full time IYKWIM.
My degree I had started has completely changed now, rather than being a 4 year degree its now a 3 year one, so Im hoping all ill need to do is a year and a half in total to get my degree. They now have a photography major as well as web design so im so excited.

I'm pretty sure that StudyLink also classes full-time as 0.8 EFTS (i.e. if a standard year is 120 points, anything over 96 points is full-time) so check whether the workload you'll be doing reaches this, just in case

You can do limited full time if you can prove why you must do part time you can get access to some further help. But generally only medical type things work for that or depression so you can't do a full work load. Stuff like that.

Nope you have to do the full 0.8 EFTS to be fulltime, or 0.5 EFTS for 1 semester.

The 0.5 is if you start studying in second semester full time. Cos most places can't enrol and approve you for the 1st semester of the next academic year SL will do the 0.5 for one semester.
