I don't like them, but I don't have any problem with Barbie. Maybe that is because that is what I was brought up with?? I know with barbie I never wanted to look like her.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I think it's fine to let people know if you don't want a certain toy be it Bratz, toy guns etc etc.
There are so many more appropriate toys to buy young children. I'm more of a books, clothes, crafts kind of buyer.

But I have had a bit of a giggle reading this. Alex (10) loves Bratz bolls, she's has a few which other people (not me) have brought her over the years but that didn't really start until about age 7. And she hasn't ever wanted to wear "a wide belt" as a skirt She knows that the clothes the dolls wear aren't the sort of clothes I'd let her out in public in. Ah well I can't say I have really strong feelings about them now. But I wouldn't waste my money on them. I just think they are truely ugly.

I dislike them myself and refuse to buy into their propaganda. It's not just plastic toys but colouring in books for 5 year olds with "Baby Bratz" (toddler versions of the doll) in string bikini's and suggestive poses. My sister made me colour one in over last holidays and I thought it was the most rank thing ever. I think has the potential possibility to desensitize children and the adults buying the material to sexual themes.
In saying that though, I don't judge people for buying it for her own kids, do what you will and all but it's just not my cup of tea.

If someone gives Olivia a Bratz themed toy, it's going to be given to St Vincent De Paul, I don't think it's rude to ask people/relatives to go for a cheaper toy (because the brand is disgustingly expensive) or make a deposit in a bank account.

Don't know anything about Bratz toys.... but I wouldn't have a problem receiving an invitation stating that - I'd be more upset giving that toy as a present and then finding out it wasn't allowed.
