    Posted: 10 November 2008 at 8:42pm
I'm studying for exams (well, will be when Private Practice is over) and have my first one on Wednesday. It's an exam on 18th Century Novels, I have a good idea of the subjects / themes that will be covered.... BUT I'm way behind on my reading and worried I won't be able to fit it all in in time.

Anyone have any flash read-and-retain or speed reading tips? It's open book exam so knowing minute details isn't as critcal as knowing what happens, the theme, what to make of it etc....

I use the relate it to something else thing when studying about theories and important people to the paper.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

www.pinkmonkey.com

fabulous for cliff notes

I also did a lot of post-it notes. - find examples of theme, of how characters change, relationships.

Do you know anyone else in the course? if you do, divide up the reading and teach each other about it.

also. www.studyit.org.nz

it's a ncea website but has FAB ideas of how to study extended texts (novels)

making mind maps and graphic organisers (look on line for some examples of these). writing your ideas in picture code really does help.
