Topic: Second baby Posted: 04 June 2006 at 3:21pm |
We are having our first baby in August and do want another one.
I am 21 so i have enough time but was wondering what people thought was a good age gap between No 1 and No 2?

i think its whatever age you think is good,
for us we are planning on trying for no 2 at christmas time when Rhiannon will be 8mths old, so we will have a 17mth gap.

my first two girls are 17 months apart and its great. my second pregnancy was a suprise one and i was scared at how i'd cope and felt bad for jade (my oldest) but her and her sister are so close and jade has a playmate whenever she wants. i dont know if and when there is a "right" time but from someone who has children reasonably close together- i recomend it
for me im finding it weird to think of my oldest being almost 4 years old when this wee one's due, and my second, emma being nearly 2.5 years.
do whats best for you and your family.... i was 21 when i had my first too....

I am having an 18 month gap I alway's wanted mine close. Probaly would have been closer except my midwife said it take's 9 month to grow a baby and nine month to recover so that is the rule I went on and of course exactly nine months after having Alan we were preggy. I think 21 is a great age to start a family by the way, but like the other ladies said its totally up to you and also it depend's on this baby and how well baby sleep's and thing's that will impact your desison on age gap.

I think most people end up conceiving just after their first baby turns 1. and that's a pretty good age - they are just young enough not to get tooooo jealous but not so old they've gotten used to being the only 1 for too long. only thing is - the time when you are really big and preggers - coincides with the time your 1st kid decides they know how to run away at shops. The other good thing though is that #1 still usually has at least 1 day nap - leaving you time to sleep while preggy, and also means you can get some sleep once baby is here provided you can get them to sleep together.
Also means you will probably end up with both in nappies, but not for too long cos #1 will be close to beginning toilet training. lololol,
All in all i think most people with that kind of age gap of about 17 to 24 months apart find that their kids are pretty good, it means a little while of being completely exhausted constantly but once that 2nd baby starts moving they are just the right age to be best friends. i am glad my girls are so close together, they are best friends... most of the time.

There is just over 4 years between Kiya and Josiah, and there will be 18 months between Josiah and Bubs. The slightly bigger gap between Kiya and Josiah happened because Kiya was 6 months old when I met my husband .
We want 5 kids, and we're planning on starting TTC the next one when the youngest turns 1. We got caught by surprise this time, conceiving despite using the minipill!

jack will be 2 in august and this bubs is due 2 october. we wanted 18-24mths between them, but started TTC in january as i didn't want to be preggers over xmas and new year
i think it will be a great age gap as jack is starting to understand things we say a bit more and is fabulous around his little 8mth old cousin.
there is 2 yrs each between my sis, my lil bro and myself and we all have a great relationship together.

Yea me and my brother have a 2 year age gap and i think that is a really good gap. My sister and i are three years which is a bit more of a stretch. So i think the 18-24months is a good gap and seems quite common.

i have 20months between my 2. And sometimes i think its a brilliant age gap (most of the time really). They play well togeather and are very protective of each other. Then they have the odd moment when the scrap over toys etc or the littler one wrecks something her older sister has been making and their is a full on fight.

There will be 20 months between JJ and #2, so i am hoping this all works out well... I wanted a not too big gap, so that worked out just about right. Of course, there are 13 years between dh's first son and JJ....

jake and Taine are 16months apart through accident. However, it seems really good at the moment and not as much hard work as i thought, but I am really lucky to have two really good kids in a good routine. Jake asks to go to bed and sleeps until 7, and taine sleeps pretty solidly too. They both eat well ,and seem to adore each other. I would've prefered a larger gap tp tell the truth. We want three kids and will start TTC (After two surprises, that still freaks me out), when Jake is at school probably. Not sure. Or I could be re-enlisting myself on the preggy list saying Oops again....which is probably more likely. Although I told the doctor if I got pregnant on the injection I would sue.

Unless a BIG OOOPS happens between now and then!!

Hehehehehe!!! What do you reckon your chances are Liz of having a planned baby?
Well I have a 19 month gap beween my two. I'm only a week into it but things are brilliant so far.
My mum said to me that it doesn't matter what the age gap is it will always be a good gap.
She has had big gaps & little gaps (nearly 5 years between me & my sis and only 14 months between my 2 brothers) so just try for #2 when you feel ready after #1 has arrived.
I'm 22 so I know how you feel about having "enough time". I wanted about a 2-2 & 1/2 year gap but I got pregnant the first time we didn't use contraception so that plan went out the window.
