Topic: Weight Watchers Posted: 03 December 2005 at 3:55pm |
I am starting WW again on Monday once I've been to the doc and got weighed etc. Cant afford the $16.95 a week for meetings now that I'm not working and I know there are a few others on here doing it, so I was thinking maybe we could have our own little support group on here... What do you think?

Yeah, I'm thinking of doing the breastfeeding plan when I have B2, we'll see!! I could blame the extra weight on jake and his eating habits, but tonight he screwed up his nose at pizza and ate pumpkin instead. Don't know where he gets THAT from!

Haha Liz!!
I am keen - there is another post somewhere (too lazy to find it and bump it) where a few of us were discussing weight loss (and gains!) and how we lost it (eg WW, Jenny Craig etc)
My dad is doing WW (going to meetings etc) and I am too poor so he is passing all his advice onto me!!
I think Emma has the cookbooks etc and is doing it on her own (not going to meetings)

I was going to ww when I found out i was expecting Jacob, and ended up losng loads of weight, not from diet, but from being so sick - yet not knowing - I was preggo. (thought I had diabeties...)
Cant really afford the weekly fee, either, especailly since u have to get a DR cert to go on the lactation plan
I am definately keen for a bit of online support. Heres the big question, how do the points work for b/f? How many more do you get?

you can often get the books off trademe quite cheap. but make sure it's the 2005 points book as they calculate them differently now, foods aren't worth as many points as they use to be

I 'did' ww while I was breastfeeding, never had to get the doc cert but that was almost a year ago... I was supposed to have 36 points a day, bumping up normal meals with things like extra rice etc!! I have the wee booklet somehwere if anyone wants me to rustle it up and tell you what it says!?

Sounds great thanks!! I emailed ww a couple of months ago to make sure I had put my membership on hold so I didn't have to rejoin, and made an enquiry about the lactation proframme, and the lady who replied said you need a DR certificate if u b/feeding, I thought that was a bit bizzaire?

Argh... I got it wrong... I was sposed to have 32 points!!
Alright, here goes...
From the WW breastfeeding mums programme...
DAILY POINTS:
MUM SHOULD EAT BETWEEN 26 AND 32 POINTS.
GUIDE:
Baby aged to 6 months on breastmilk only, mum to have 32 points
Baby aged 6 - 9 months on breastmilk and solids, mum to have 30 points
Baby aged 9 - 12 months on breastmilk and increased solids, mum to have 28 points
12 months + or until breastfeeding finishes, mum to have 26 points.
If you suspect your milk supply is decreasing, seek help from breastfeeding assoc and try adding extra four points.
TO GET ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS:
It is recommended you eat:
7-8 serves of veg
5 serves of fruit
2-3 serves of dairy products
2 serves of meat, poultry or fish
6 serves of cereal breads and grains.
Breastfeeding mums should also spend about 2 points on unsaturated fats.
1/2 med avocado (2 1/2 points)
4 tsp canola oil (3 points)
1 small can of salmon in spring water (2-3 points)
30g nuts(2 1/2 - 4 points)
Drink at least six glasses of water a day.
WEANING BABY:
As more solids are introduced and points are reduced it is wise to:
Reduce fat intake first
Gradually reduce serves of cereal, dairy, meat and fruit to level of reg members
Reduce veg serves last.
ADDING TO MENU PLANS:
1. Have larger helpings of certain foods:
meat/poultry/cereals/etc
2. Add extra foods
avocado/yoghurt on cereal/additional snacks, smoothies etc
3. Swap foods
Regular low fat yoghurt instead of diet
Olive oil instead of cooking spray
Olive oil based dressings instead of no-oil ones
* phew *
and finally there is an example of a menu plan with added extras for breastfeeding!!
This is def my longest post ever! Hope that helps!! Let me know if there is anything else I can plagiarise for you!!

Wow, I wish I was breastfeeding ! An excuse to eat more food!
I bought the books from WW themselves, you don't have to be a member, just send away on mail order and they were about $40 for the set of 3. But they do sell quite cheap on Trade Me as someone else has said.
I'm all for an online support group. I have been a bit slackish these last couple of weeks with so many xmas functions etc, so my aim is to maintain my weight until after xmas, then give it another serious kick after New Years.

Hmmm... dont know about anyone else but Ive been very slack Broken all the crucial rules - havent been writing down my points, not enough water and boredom/emotional eating!! Probably havent been too bad really, like no real bad food, but still too much. Obviously eating the wrong foods cos still hungry after 32 points but need to finish what food we've already got (shop monthly) - excuses, excuses!!
Ok, so I also need some advice on meal ideas cos its def harder with a baby (needs to be quick to prepare) and we on a tight budget, just the basics. Stir frys and salad are the current favs, but any great ideas??!

Well I am still in love with my bagels!!
I put on - Hummus, Avocado, Tomato and Bacon (bacon if its lunch / dinner) and I can use the hummus on sandwiches with ham, hummus and avocado sandwiches, tomato, bacon and lettuce salad etc etc - So are all a good base for many more meals...
Must say I have been slack too - Arna "borrowed" my points calculator and hid it in her toybox - now I have forgotten how to use it ... Anyone give me an online how to?

Actual Calculator - Green thing.
Quite good - can put how many points your allowed and deduct them during the day, work out point bonus's, etc etc. They are about $30 and the best investment (thanks to dad's visa!)
