Ok I know they recommend not taking bubs swimming until 6 months but I was just wondering why that was? I wana take Jack swimming again but don't have anyone I can leave Caprece with so is it ok to take her? Shes 4 months
I think it is mainly due to them not being able to regulate their temp very well. Also I have read about too much water in their ears and swallowing it etc.
Just call your local pool and see what they say, maybe you could get a little wetsuit for Caprece?
We got told that they prefer them to have had the 3 lots of immunisations as infections are spread easily in the warm water. The temperature issue was in the conversation as well but not the main reason for the swimming school we are using. In saying that she did say that you can take them as young as 3 months, but they prefer them to be over.
We took Noah after he turned 4 months cos that is when our local pool offered lessons from. He has been fine with it - no problems with getting sick etc. I know that on the baby mornings that they heat the pool more so that it is really nice and warm for the littlies. Might pay to check whether they do it at your pool and what days so you can go then.
I asked at our local pool earlier in the week if I can bring Ella in for a swim (will be 4 months tomorrow). They said as long as her jabs were up to date, then it was up to me. They did recommend not having her in the water long than 20 mins as their skin is still quite sensitive as this age.
