my eyes are terrible

i used to wear glasses cos i failed my license eye site test about 10 years. anyway we got mysky yesterday and we have quite a large tv but i cant read the flippin menu cos my eye site has got so bad. i have my original glasses but the lenses are horrible cos my eyes have got so much. does anyone know how much it would cost me to get new lenses put into old frames? not including the consultation

My DH paid $700 for his last pair of glasses , however I think most of that was the cost of the frames.

yep, if your lenses are "stock" (ie within a certain range) you would be looking around 120 to 200 depending on reflective vs non- reflective(more expensive but worth it)  Eye tests are more like $60 these days.  If your frame is really old you may find it needs to be changed.  Sometimes you can get good package deals from places like OPSM or Vision Specialists so that might be worth looking into.  I also think Visique have a package deal every now and then.

yup the frames are the dearest bit it depends on the strength of lenses and what else you do with them e.g. non reflective, transitions etc. It might pay to shop around and see if you can get a good deal. I know the likes of OPSM etc often have deals going that are quite good. Being in wellington you should have no problem there.

DzinerGirl - yep, my right eye is shocking. I can't even read the screen without my glasses, and it's maybe 30cm away from my face (I'm lying in bed with a laptop). I can only make out the different shades of things - lines of words just look like a blurry black line. My left eye I can read the screen with only a little difficulty.

Glasses suck at times - my nana is blind and all the optometrists have said I'm going to be like her in the long run

Does bad eyesight get passed on to your children? I'm severely short sighted (especially my right eye, as above), and DF is colour blind and has astigmatism. My dad is colour blind as well.
