ooh can I add to the child support rant. Let me start off by saying first, like Claire, I don't begrudge my stepson ANYTHING.
We have a private arrangment as well, and we also pay halves for clothes etc, which can be hard when teenager and his mother buy $60 tee shirts etc.
Anyhoo, XMAS child support rant. Ex rings up a few weeks ago, saying shes sending no 1 to oz for 5 weeks over the school hols with his cuz. We don't have to stump up half the airfares, but we do have to provide spending money, and still pay support for him while away. My rant is, just how much money does a 13yr old need? I know xmas isn't about spending money, like Deb said, presence not presants but I was told $50 MAX for jake (I know hes only wee, and dosent need much) and nothing for each other to accomodate for this extra money we are forking out as well as the $400 school fees for next year that arrive next week. GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Yay for trade me though, I got heaps for my $50!

oooh bummer!!! Tell him you can get telecom to put an 0900 toll bar on the broardband connection and get them to call you when international calls have been made. Also u can get email alerts for usage. We had this problem, someone hacks into your system (usually happens if u have a file share programme) and makes international calls thru your connection.

I am a bit like you all, Wanted this big christmas for Bailey being his first and all.. but we cant afford it! last year we brought for most of his family, this year they are just getting a personalised calender with photos of bailey and me and a friend did some baking, we made - sugar cookies, truffles, coconut ice, florentines, chocolate spoons(half dip spoons in chocolate, then when they stir there coffee the chocolate will melt)and white christmas It wasnt that expensive either as there were 4 of us so we all brought different ingredients and we all got a mixture to take home (and quite a lot too) I thik I spend about $20.00 in total on that, and about $100.00 on the calenders.
As for Baileys pressents we didnt get him much, a book, a couple of toys which a couple of them were from trademe.

As for student loans mine was 27,000.00 last time I looked and it rising more and more each year cause of the bloody interest!!! GRRRR

when i came back from the idol wild card show, our car was in the shop my partner had been in an accident months before (he was okay thank GOD), and was about to be repo'd, but the day i got back our pa(Music equiptment) was repo'd and i just knew i was preggers too. that music gear was our livelyhood, we were at the lowest of the low, but i got positive, put aside the fact that i may be preggers for 2 weeks (lol) and got our PA back. we've been at the bottom now and theres no going back... thats what keeps me going thru the hard times, i wont go back to that. then i had a preggers test and was so so happy that i was guna be a mama!

we had a hacker get into our internet and our bill was like $1000's, the phone peeps were really good and halved the bill for us, it was still huge but they didnt have to do that. they put a toll bar thingee on the internet...

on a brighter note, i woke up with $1000 in my bank today! lol, thats from the function that timmy played at in welly 3 weeks ago,,, i think most of that will be going on mr phone bill!

why doesn't telecom notify people if their internet use suddenly goes up like that? I mean, who is going to use THAT much? A business maybe, but a family - no way! I think banks notify use if their is any unusual credit card use...well, they do on tv. telecom should do the same.

ive found since ive had caitlyn that layby is really one of the best inventions out lol

your kids and family will appreciate what ever they get, there are some who get much less....i used to get so wrapped up in the presents that i forgot to relax and enjoy the day for what it is -a day off work to spend with the ones u care about....and then 4 years ago my friends mum, pregnant sister, brother in law and 6year old niece were killed in a car accident on christmas eve-and that put it in perspective for me

Hope everyone has a better christmas than they think they will and that everything works out for everyone

Like other people have said all you really need to have for a lovely christmas is a happy, healthy, loving family and although we don't have much money this year either I am looking forward to our first christmas with our beautiful baby boy very much!

Like Trish we decided to do the homemade thing and give peple photos and footprints of Joey in a lovely frame (50% off all picture frames at Briscoes over the weekend!!) and I did lots of yummy baking to give as pressies too. As for Joey, we haven't got him anything yet as we know he will get pressies from everyone else and will wait and see. Then get him something after Christmas when the money isn't quite as tight. He doesn't care this year anyway, he seems happy enough gazing at our tiny tree

Willie and I had a portrait of us taken by Patrick Bellett which is costing us $2100, so we are paying it off at some ungodly amount each week and that is our Xmas present to each other. So not cheap, but something our children can treasure forever.

We don't buy each other birthday pressies tho.
