DP's kiddo and I like to watch movies together. If she had her way, she'd be watching barbie movies but I would rather stick a dirty needle in my eye than watch that garbage again.

Hits in our house include:

Never ending story
Labyrinth
The lion, the witch and the wardrobe
Toy story
Monsters inc

Any other ideas for films?

How old is she?  My daughter loves Sound of Music (she's 3).  Anything with songs in it she's into it.

I'm a big fan of Aladdin, we used to watch it with our cousins when they were young.
And anything with songs is always a hit.

She's five. Generally, musicals are a big hit but she didn't like the sound of music (too complex a plot).

I forgot about Matlida, that was awesome.

Stardust? I seem to remember it was a great kidult movie but I saw it a while back so might pay to do a pre-view first incase there are bits that are too scary for a 5 year old. Sort of like Princess Bride.

Mind you if she watches NeverEnding Story OK she should be fine. Man those Sphinxes still give me the chills

All we watch is "Shrek". DS loves it! Have no idea why but its not bad for adult watching.

He is quite a bit younger than your DP's child but we go with the old school basics like: Lion King, Madagascar, Finding Nemo, Shrek etc.

But basically if its not Shrek, he is not interested!

Kids movies that I liked are;

Finding Nimo
Nanny McPhee
Bridge to Terabithia

and I LOVE the labryth!

Has she seen Wizard of Oz? I loved that movie as a kid - don't think I could stand to watch it now though - overkill!

Oh and she LOVES Mumma Mia!  If the price of tickets for the show weren't so expensive I'd take her to it.

ooh what about that one with Amy Adams and the guy from Grey's Anatomy? I think it's called Enchanted. Not great for adults but bearable.

Animated movies I have enjoyed recently -

Bee Movie
Ice Age (haven't seen the third one yet though)
Bolt

I actually quite like High School Musical (I love cheesey films) but probably a bit old for a 5yr old.

I loved Parent Trap when I was a kid.

What about Babe, ET, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (or was it Willy Wonka - the Gene Wilder one, not the Johnny Depp one), Princess Bride, The Goonies ....

My kids love high school musical and hairspray and I don't mind watching them either.

Happy feet and cars are also favourites here.

Bolt is such a good movie, DB sat thru the whole thing and didn't move... I have to admit I had a tear in my eye in one part.

Ella Enchanted is a great movie too.

Another one that we watch quite often is Miss Potter.. the kids love it, not sure why...

Also Camp Rock, the HSM movies too.
