but my baby boy starts school in a few weeks!!!! Where has the time gone? Is it normal to be worried about safety etc...? Im scared because at preschool they have teachers everywhere and they cant get out. what if for some strange reason he decides to go wondering out the gate...or gets stuck in the toilet and they dont know he is missing (this is one of my fears so worry it will happen to him....) We have our first school visit Wednesday, he doesnt seem to worried about it but Im a bit nervous to say the least.

Oh I am stressing about this now and Sienna is only going to be 3 next month, I think it is every mums right to worry about their baby starting school.

I am a bit too. The things tha realieve my fears are that he has people in his class that he laready knows (hopefully Kobe has that???), and that we are such a small school he shouldn't really be allowed to run away like that.
We have school visits in 2 week now.

we dont really know anyone in the class, or even at the school. There is one boy we kind of know who will be in Kobes class and his mum and I have been having playdates so the boys get to know each other but he is a really full on confident boy where as kobe is a bit more stand back and watch type so Im guessing Daniel will just go and make new friends and Kobe wont see much off him...I could be wrong...actually now Im worried about that, what if he doesnt make any friends...i hate the thought of my baby sitting by himself at lunch and play times...crap another thing to worry about

oh you guys i so hear what you are saying....let me reassure yous that it will work out, as i too had those worries and more!! seems like a little while ago now and it made me laugh to actually think back to those times. (see one day you will look back and laugh too)
advise: take someone with you if you can on the first day because if you are like me there may be a few tears and they wont nessasarly be from the child. you may need someone to drag you away and make a clean getaway
dont show to much anxiety in front of the child. chances of heightning their fear could result.
Talk to the teacher let them know your fears and you will soon discover that it is the fear of all the parents and they are well aware of all the issues that come with school starters (remember it is their job).
take a deep breath..and welcome the school years and all that comes with it.
PS...as i have come to learn. you will again go through the similar worries when they change to go to intermediate or worse their first day of college (i had a few tears yet again!!)

I went through the same thing before Janaya started school. I had this vision of her wondering around the school all alone, lost and with no friends 
The first day of school I ran to the car and sobbed for over half an hour. I was planning on staying for the morning, and was heartbroken when she turned to me and said "MUM, you can go now"
Janaya made a friend the day we went to buy her school uniform, I bumped into a friend from college and we found we had kids the same age.
They really take care of the new entrants in the first few weeks. Janayas teacher used to wait with her every day until we picked her up.
They also lock the gates during the day so the only way they can get out is via the school office.
Janaya had no visits prior, and settled in fine.

i have the same worries and fears robyn.......we still have a few more months yet but it's starting to get me down.
i'm worried about jack being the 'nigel no mates' kid that eats and plays by himself. he doesn't really have any friends at daycare, he just plays with everyone. outside of daycare he's only got charli and his cousin. 
i'm sure kobe will be fine......as will jack. but we mothers.......it's all over for us!

I had these worries last year when rico was due to start school. I had to keep telling myself that I had to go through it and survived, and everyone else 5 yrs and older have to go through it, so it will be ok! The school visits did reassure me a lot! Got to see the other children in his class and they all welcomed Rico in. Also it helps to know that Rico can play by himself, if the need be. He takes it own rugby ball to school and kicks it around the field and he tells me that other kids join in with him. So maybe Kobe could do the same? I always cover Rico's belongings in vivid with his name and class room though as things can get lost. Thankfully anything he has misplaced has come back a few days later .
Maybe you can talk to Kobe's teacher and tell him/her your worries and they can let you know how new entrant children are looked after.

Wow- Id feel the same! (I have felt scared of this school business for the last few mnths & Brae aint starting till Feb 2010  )

Wow I can't beleibe Kobe is nearly a school kid  I'm sure they must keep a bit of an eye on them, especially the new entrants? Aww have fun Kobe

Im so glad Im not the only one who has/had these thoughts....all kids do it right and as my husband says how often do you hear about lost little kids that have gone wondering from school....

And Addison is very not impressed she cant go to school with him and said she doesnt want to go to preschool if Kobe isnt there, she wants to go to school cos she big girl apparently.

When DS1 started school I was more upset than him, I worried he would walk off, kindy was always safe due to the fences & gates, but he never did. I stayed near the phone for ages.
DS2 will be 5 In Dec & will start next year, I have fears that he is not ready, he is very different to his older brother as he is more adventurous & strong willed not such a bad thing but he is still my baby.
I also did the school visits & talked to the teacher & made sure I was early to pick him up & that he knew he had to wait by his room for me.
It gets easier with time, she says excited & still dreading her next one going off into the big wide world
