For the last week Jack has been waking up 5+ times a night for no reason. When I go in I just put his dummy in and wrap him up and back to sleep he goes. He doesn't seem in pain but sometimes won't go back to sleep. During the day he is happy for about an hour and then cries for most of rest of the time he is up. I'm so exhausted and don't know what to do.

He had nappy rash for the first time but no other signs of teeth or anything. He is eating the equivalent of 3-4 tins of food a day and 4 mlk feeds and has about 4 hours of sleeps during the day. I had a wee break down today so ben stayed home and looked after jack all day. I'm not too keen on letting him cry. I tried it a while ago but it seemed to reinforce that i would come in so his crying went for longer and longer. I don't mind getting up once a night but I'm going crazy and poor ben is exhausted as well.

If anyone has any tips they would be much appreciated.

Yea i would take him to the doctor if you can't source another problem. My niece had ear problems and she became really restless at night time.

If you find nothing medically wrong with him... might I suggest a safety sleep for the wrapping thing and if there is still a problem with the dummy... maybe trying to phase that out. (Altho that might be a bit much to deal with right now... do anything you can to get back to a decent amount of sleep and then deal with things like that)

The other thing I found with the crying it out thing. I know you aren't that keen on it, but I tried the crying thing where you go in and soothe them but that seriously just made her cry for longer. I ended up getting so wound up every time it was her bedtime that I got stubborn and just left her to cry. So if you can strengthen your resolve and let him cry without going in, after 3 days they don't seem to cry at all! (Just depends how close to mental breakdown you are as to whether you can handle it )

And... I have found (through many nights of not being able to get Han to sleep) that if you are tense the little buggers pick up on it and will NOT go to sleep. Whatever you try. So at times like those you just need to do something that chills you out and then go back and try again.

Good luck Rach!

We've been through that with Alex.....I don't know why it started but it did stop! Alex has the dummy and he would get unsettled when it dropped out of his mouth. Very annoying but I didn't want him to give it up so. Alex still does not have teeth but I think when he went through that unsettled time it was something to do with teeth as he has lumps towards the back of his mouth which will be teeth (molars)but they have not come through. No sign of the front teeth. We wrapped him and then I would rub his tummy in a circular motion, lightly not making any eye contact with im.

It was a very hard sleep deprived time and I was back at work but it did come right. I hope it comes right for you

Cameron was not sleeping much at all during the day last week, and we went to the doctors yeterday and he had an ear infection. I felt really guilty but he didn't look sick at all. I didn't even consider that there was something wrong with him.

Also we did what plunket recommended, letting him cry for 10mins and then going in, but I'm sure that just kept him awake because he knew we would go into him sooner or later - so on Sunday we let him cry. On and off he cryed for an hour - the next sleep it was half an hour and now he is going down really well. He has his 6 week injections yesterday though so I think all our hard work is out the window.

haha Well super smart Ella might not fall for it.
I swear as well they can sense when you are weakening. So unless you are absolutely heartless (or pretending to be) it doesn't work.

yeah I think that's what it was.. mummy + baby crying don't work very well.. drives me up the wall; I couldn't do it by myself (as the issue was with naps)
