Topic: Anyone on the Mini Pill? Posted: 20 October 2006 at 6:53pm |
My midwife gave me some minipill tablets before she discharged me and I have been using them for the last 3 weeks. After the first week I got my period which lasted a week. The week after that I had no period and today it has started again...wtf is that all about, is this how it is supposed to work or is it some sort of starting thing??

I dont know but i started on it pretty much straight away, had stopped post baby bleeding for about 2 weeks and when i started the mini pill i got my period again and it stayed off and on for about 5 weeks until i had had enough and stopped taking it and then i stopped bleeding and didnt get my period again for about a 6 weeks so I dont know what the story is with it but I sure dont like it.

I hated the mini pill because of that reason - the bleeding.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

OK, when I went on the mini pill I was told 1/3 of women have their period as normal, 1/3 have irregular bleeding, and 1/3 get no period at all.
I went with this and thought I was just not bleeding b/c of the mini pill. No. Pregnant.
Anyway... bleeding should settle down after you have been on it for a few months. But if you get nothing then I seriously advise pregnancy tests every now and again!

Hi, I would suggest talking to your midwife/doctor about it. I didn't have anything like that. I had my normal bleeding after birth, then nothing while breastfeeding. I gave up almost a month ago and still had nothing. I have just gone onto the proper pill, so slowly and uneagerly waiting for the arrival. LOL

i've always been on the minipill because of bloodclot history and have never had a prob with bleeding. i must be the 1/3
maybe have a chat to your midwife about it and ask her what's up

I was on the mini pill ages ago as had problems with weight gain with the full pill. I got a period every 2 weeks with the first one I had, the second one no period but broke out everywhere (yuck) and the third seemed to work fine, but I fell pregnant on it. perhaps if this is happening and it is a full period not just some spotting try a different one as what works for some doesn't work for others.

Thanks for all your comments ladies, sounds like it's a pretty common problem. I will chat to my doc next time I see him but for now I'll keep taking it and see if things settle down after another month or so..
