Topic: growth spurts Posted: 25 July 2006 at 7:06pm |
When is it normal for a baby to go through a growth spurt?
Rhiannon is now 15wks and today has feed every 2 hours, drinking 180mls everytime, but only sleeping for 20mins, i am really hoping that she will sleep tonight, as i dont want to be up all night.

It can be different for each baby. I think there are guidelines (around 3 months I seem to remember was one) but Ella was always different to the guidelines..
good luck, been there, done that

I feel like Joshie has them every couple of weeks! My way of telling is if he wakes in the night he's having one. I had a 3.30am wake up this morning, so think he must be. A week off turning 3 months.

Rhiannon is now 16weeks, and our feeding routine is all up the sh*te.
for example yesterday she feed at 5.30am, 10am, 12pm, 4pm, 6.30pm and 10.30pm.
she then slept until 6.30am...had a feed, slept again until 8.30am, woke up played for a while went back to sleep at 10am...and is still asleep.
my worry is knowing if she is getting enough and whether i need to start her on some solids.
it seems that every second day at the moment she is having 6plus feeds of around 180mls, then the days inbetween she is happy with 5 feeds 4 hrly.

I would try and wait until 4 months before solids if you can. Just before we started Jack on solids he was having 8+ feeds a day but he is big. She's probably having her big growth spurt and if you are feeding her when she wants it she should be getting enough

My plunket nurse recommended not starting solids til Joshie is 6 months, but that seems quite late to me??? Anyone know about this? I'd thought we try him on solids at about 4 months but mebbe this is too early?? Eek, dunno what to do!!

I started Zac on solids at 4 months as he was always watching what we were eating and reaching for food. We started off with one feed a day of baby rice and sometimes added fruit puree to it. When we were in NZ we went to Plunket to have him weighed and the Plunket lady said not to give him apple puree as at that age it was too much for his tummy to digest. Zac is now 8 months and loves his food - he hasn't refused anything that I have tried to feed him.

My little man has been waking during the night the past few nights after sleeping through, I was wondering what was going on, maybe it is a growth spurt? He will just guzzle down a feed and then drop back off to sleep again. I am seeing the bags under my eyes start to reappear again though LOL!

Clare, they used to say wait til 4 months, but now say to wait until 6. that said, Taine and Jake were both on solids at four months, as were a couple of other oh baby babies. If Joshua is showing signs of being ready, i would give him some solids, if he isn't, then don't. Don't take those age things as gospel, just a guide

Thanks Liz. I don't think he's near ready yet - he can't even sit up by himself yet, I'd feel odd trying to feed solids to a bubba that small!!!
