Following from the other thread. What store brand foods do you know that are pretty much the same as the well known brands, or are the actual well known brand but different packaging.

This might help when we all do the dreaded food shop.

I have used SR tampons and they are pretty much Carefree ones.

So what do you know??

The SR toilet paper is pretty much the same as the Purex/Sorbent/Cotton Softs 2 ply.

The new SR jam - soo yummy. Budget/Home brand milk - same as the rest. Love Nature fresh bread now - it's normally one of the cheapest. SR cheese is Ok too.

ETA - like Emma, we bought some SR toilet paper - 4 ply double length - it's wonderful and does not need changing often

Budget bread is pretty much the same as Natures Fresh (so good to only pay $1.08 a loaf).

I second that. We used to always get Natures Fresh (which is around $2-something) and had always avoided the budget bread, thinking it would be kinda dry and not so nice.
One week we went ahead and bought the budget bread...and it's actually really nice, and very little difference at all.

I must say, I much prefer paying less than half what I used to for a loaf of bread!

I only like wholegrain bread and have never seen budget branded wholegrain - only white or wholemeal. Does it exist? Would happily give it a go if I could find it!

I am pretty sure Budget to a wholegrain bread. It has a pinky purplely coloured writing on the bag.

I agree the HomeBrand bread is really good - much prefer it to Budget and even the other more expensive breads. Still buy the slightly more expensive whole grain bread but usually only if its less than $2.50.

I discovered Homebrand cookies the other day and they are atcually quite nice. Although have to watch it because today they were the most expensive...

I dont even mind the HB toilet paper...... I think its still soft enough. I dont luke spending money on something that gets flushed.

When I think about it I dont think theres much I wond buy HB or SR, its all just food to me.

The Budget Coco Puffs and Budget Choc Chip Biscuits are the best, I reckon.

We get Budget bread - don't find it any different to most others. We get it cos it's dairy free as well as cheap.

Our budget bread is really dry so its about the only branded thing I buy.

I used to work at Hellers and with the hams and bacon and stuff was the same but in different packaging.

Budget Cocoa Pops are made by a well known cereal company that doesn't have a chocolate cereal in their branded lines. Just found that out the other day and now know why my kids keep choosing it.

SR toilet paper is not the same as Purex or Sorbent.

Cheddar cheese is all the same and just packaged differently so I've been told and I wouldn't imagine there's much difference in milk.

Some housebrands are imported - others made by manufacturers in NZ who tender for the business. So quality can change depending on where the product is sourced from when tenders change.

Homebrand is generally good... I avoid the pasta... it's pasty when cooked... I have to use up the rest I have. Also the Homebrand basmati rice I had, had weevils... but I am sure that can happen to any brand (eg. storage before packaged).

We get the bread, milk etc... I tried a cheaper cheese today too, wasn't bad (not the same look when melted, but good on sandwiches etc).
