I knew a girl once who was in a similar situation. This was in Auckland, she went into North Shore Hosp and asked if she could make sandwiches and bring them round the wards to sell, to visitors and staff etc. She ended up doing really well from it and 'sold' her business a year or so later when she went back to her old job. It was good for her as it was something she could do while she had her bub with her. What about trying a similar thing? Maybe you could approach some biggish companies and ask if you could do a similar thing and sell lunches to their employees? Might be a bit of work initially but at least you can stay at home?

Not a silly idea, Anna. Years and years ago when my littlies were babies (teenagers now), I did just that. I went around local workshops etc... (mechanics and the like are good business, love their savouries and filled rolls) sold heaps, well enough to get by on for extras, while hubby worked. Take orders too. Just went to each place, we were in an industrial area in Auckland at the time. That was a long time ago. I had my sister to do it with me, pays to have a helping hand and anything that doesnt sell, well you get to keep it all comes back. Also the thing that someone said about I.R.D giving $1200, that is a one off payment and only if you don't receive Parental leave payments, its either one or the other sorry, at the time your baby is born. This time around we are having another littlie and we are in a better situation, hubby works and earns good money, I quit work and will be spending time with baby, for a few years at least. but I know I will still want to do something, so am thinking of making things, crafts etc... as a hobby but also to sell for extra at fairs and things, just for a little bit for me and baby. Remember I have teenagers too now and they are going to be a big help.
Time is important with ours babies, but I can tell you now, I spent all the time in the world with my other two and they would say when I did go back to work, Oh its not fair you should be at home blah blah and when I was they didnt appreciate it much. Honestly I would have to tell them things I did with them in the first 5 years, they couldn't remember. My life was them! I enjoyed myself though. But I have known mums that went straight back to work (they had to) and their relationships with their kids are fine. I hope things work out for you, but really look at all your options before making a decision, no harm in trying aye.

Hey Everyone, thanks for your help.
IRD said all they can give is well nothing, $0.00 until 1st April this year, because I earnt too much from the last finacial year to now. Even tho I'm not working now and we have about $300 comming in a week! And when April rolls around, we can only get $51 a week! How sad is that?

So We decided that Chasity is way more important form us to miss out on, I mean she only gets this first year once right... so I'm going back to work part time. Strange as shifts, only thing is I'm not going to be baking. So that means I have to work more shifts to earn the same money.

Ah well life as ay.

Yeah Chasity was all good after her shots, girzzy for about 5 mins and was fine after that, she even slept better than she did the night before.

Possibly in April that might mean you qualify for the accomodation supplement too. I think it is WINZ that you go through for that. Give it a go anyway
