Topic: We survived the shots! Posted: 10 November 2006 at 1:24pm |
Well I think we did anyway...
Maddie had her six week shots and check up today...the good news is that she is doing really well and growing like a weed. One small worry is that she has a very soft heart murmer but I've been told not to worry as they often grow out of it, it's something that Monique will keep an eye on but she said Maddie is doing so well if there was an issue we'd already see symptoms.
Maddie then had her shots and of course screamed and sobbed the doctors office down...I felt like such a mean mummy! At least B was there and I made him hold her! She had a feed then went right off to sleep.
We went and got some pamol for her and bumped into Mrs Frantic at the pharmacy. She continued to sleep right through while we had coffee (awesome to catch up Mrs F!!) and has just had a feed and dozed back off. Hopefully that will be the extent of her reaction!

I hate those shots. you feel so mean! I was tossing up holding the boys so I would be "there" for them - but them having them associate me with pain, or abadoning them to the mean nurse! actually, kinda funny, Jake had to "catch up" on his shots when we came back from the japan and the same nurse did them a month apart or about three months. Anyway, after that whenever we saw her, down the street or in the supermarket he started to scream.
poor Maddy though. i hate needles myself!

Gosh it only seems like yesterday you had little Maddie!! Congrats on surviving first shots. It helps having support with you I find anyway, I'm a real softie!! Hubby has come with me for all of Lockie's shots. I make sure I book them for the weeks that he is going to be home just in case things turn to custard.

I hate the shots too, in fact I often delay them a few months until I'm ready - no matter the baby lol!
A little scary about the heart murmur but good that it has been found out now. One of my brothers had a heart murmur at 6wks, in his case it was more serious as he had a blue tinge to his skin also - just something to look out for, but the meds all sound promising about Maddie's - yay.

Well Monique said that she had no blue tinge or any other signs so more than likely she will grow out of it...whew...still I'll be glad once that's confirmed!
A friend of mine though was in the same situation and her son grew out of his...apparently it's pretty common.
Maddie has been a little more unsettled the rest of the day but hopefully she will be settled down soon and get a good night's sleep.

Hey Paws, Olivia has a heart murmur a "systolic swish" it was very scary for me (as I am a natural worrier) so it is great to hear that I am not alone!
Olivia was checked out by a paediatrician at 4 months and the sound got a lot louder (which is a good thing, mean a smaller hole if there is one) so we went for a scan and it turns out that she has a tightened pulminary valve (no hole!) which she will most probably grow out of. But we have to go back in a few months for a sedated (woohoo!... oh for her not me!) check up and see what is happening, if it hasn't gotten any better then the give bubbah an angiogram of sorts which will make it better. Mean time Olivia is in the 75% for weight and height so it looks like it is definitely getting better (one way to tell the body is working fine).
Lots of cuddles to Maddy, the shots are always so crappy!
