I get really annoyed (especially at McDonalds) when my order is not right, and I have to let them know.

Just before I decided to treat myself as I had finally caught us up on paying the bills and decided that I really really wanted a big mac, but didn't feel like such a big burger. So I got a baby mac combo. I hate the pickle - have done since I worked at McDonalds (started there over 10 years ago) - I think it's from having to stick my hands in the pickle buckets to get them out in a rush (you know Friday madness , and those 50c hamburger nights). The smell . So I got my lunch and come home and start to eat. Take a bite and gross  there is pickle in there, even thou I have the grill slip to say NO PICKLE .

I ring them and she was good about it (she'll let them know about - well I did whenever I received a customer complaint about a burger) and is sending out some vouchers to me.

Just don't get me started on Lollipops in Palmy . I don't let my children eat from there.

But does anyone else let people know there service isn't up to scratch??

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I absolutely do.
But not in a nasty way - more so they can pick up their game and not let it happen again to someone else.

DH and I went out for lunch a week before Hannah was born. We ordered a pizza to share between us.
We were sitting there, happily chatting away, when we noticed a table of 4 that arrived after we ordered our lunch were getting pizzas delivered to their table...
So DH went up and asked what was going on, they explained it would be out soon.
So we waited... 20 mins went by... so he went up again. They saw him coming and said "5 minutes, sir...we'll bring it right out".
10 mins later (9 month pregnant wifey getting antsy and threatening to blast them...) he went up again to say not to worry about it and we'd go elsewhere.
They explained that they accidentally delivered our pizza to another table so had to make us a new one..

You'd think that they could've TOLD us that in the first place! We'd have been much happier to sit and wait as it was a gorgeous day and we were enjoying the last of our "couple" time.
So they boxed up our pizza and didn't charge us for it, so we took it home and had it for dinner

But yeah... I think it's important for restaurants, or ANY retail business, to be told of any inadequacies in their methods or staff.

Yep I agree. When we owned our cafe, we really appreciated it when people let us know if they weren't happy about something - then we could apologise and put it right.

I was so annoyed at one customer though - they sent us a nasty letter in the mail, complaining that their vege quiche didn't have enough veges in it and that it took too long to come out. And they said that they would never come back and would tell their friends!! The most annoying thing is that they didn't leave a name or address, so they didn't even give us a chance. We would have apologised and explained that we didn't actually make the quiches ourselves, we got them brought in, so we would have a word to our supplier. And we would have given them something else on the house.

We always let places know in a nice polite if we're not happy about something, so that they can fix it!

Oo and talking about McD's... when I was preggie I was into their frozen cokes big time, and one morning I got one on the way to a meeting. They hand it to me and it's all watery and gross at the bottom. I told the girl it was all watery and wasn't usually like that, and she said "oh it's cos it's the first one of the day, so the first one out of the machine". So I asked her if she could make me another one and she did and it was lovely! I thought it was a bit cheeky trying to give me that gross one, but if I hadn't have said anything I would have been in a grump all day.

Another time we went out for lunch for mothers day or something and I ordered the chicken filo... honestly I put my fork into it and it was practically all only just light puffy pastry with one little tiny bit of chicken. I was so guttered. DH took it back for me and I ordered something else, they were real good about it.

So from the position of past cafe owner, a small plea... please let people know if you're not happy with the service or food, and do so nicely and not anonymously so they can make it up to you!

Yes I always do. I usually get home and find the order wrong so just call them up. I always ask for NO mayo and alot of the time they think I say extra mayo....yuck!

I dont like the pickle either but I dont mind picking it out and giving it to DF. Way less hassle then trying to get them to not put a pickle in my burger.

I always tell people when I think a service or order isn't up to scratch. I always do so in a really nice way though and often get free stuff out of it.

YuYup, I'm definitely a complainer. I worked in customer service for a good 5 years and always made a point of being nice to people so it really bugs me when I get surly checkout operators or waitpeople. It's not that hard to smile!
My biggest pet hate atm is at Subway when they are stingy with the dressing, I always make them put more on.

Subway drives me nuts, they are soooo unfriendly at our local and so stingy on everything. I actually won't go there now, thats how uncomfy it makes me feel!

Oh and I got my own back once. I used to work for Wendy's Supa Sundaes (many years ago) and this stupid rude cow came in. She was AWFUL to me, treating me like a lower class citizen. So she ordered a hot dog with chilli so I put HEAPS of chilli sauce in it.

She came back 10 mins later with chilli ALL DOWN HER FRONT, I know thats terrible and I had to be nice to her while she went off at me but I got my own back.

I am not nasty really!

Let me tell you a story about bad customer service, we went out for dinner to the local speights ale house for my bday. 2 of the girls both oredered well done steaks (they both used to be vegetarians so love them well done) and the waitress even made a special point that our meals would come out a bit later to make sure the steaks were well done, we all agreed.

Anyway so our food comes out and we had maybe a mouthful each when the waitress asks if our meals are ok and we all say yes cos they looked great and what we had eaten was good. When the girsl got to their steaks they found them rare, they weren't even medium defintately rare with blood covering all the food on their plate. They had eaten about 1/4 of the food so most of it was still there and we say something to the waitress. She goes away and comes back and says well I asked if it was ok and you said yes so tough luck really. We asked to see the manager and he said the same thing basically. We ended up having to share our meals with the girls because they didn't want to eat the rest of the food covered in blood, so we all got a small feed and had to pay full price for all the meals. I have told everyone I know about how terrible the food and serive was just for their rudeness. Ohh I'm still mad thinking about it.

Tes, I do, havng been in a management postion and delaing with the grupmy custys (seemed I was only one of 2 of us who could do it right, lol) and being a business owner (well part owner, lol) it is in the best interests for everyone if you can NICELY let people know when somehting isn't right.

However, the customer is always right isn't always entirely correct, and some take it to the extreme. A customer once BLASTED one of the staff at MHJ because company policy says cheques over a certain $ amount mest be telechecked, and over another $ amount is a phonecall telecheque and he didn't think that was quite right, because "DON'T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" - well, no, actually. Anyhow, we almost lost a several thousand $ sale because of it, and he was adamant we were just being "difficult". I talked him around, but the whole attitude of the customer being right really got up my nose. And as for the customer I had to accompany to he bank to prove we had reversed a sale back onto his card, well, don't get me started on that!

we were leaving for a trip to auckland and i decided i should run and grab some Mcdonalds for breakfast for the three of us to get us through the flight and waiting etc.

so i hurry off in the car, my dad was due to arrive in 45 mins to take us to the airport.
i come back home with our breakfast, and realise they have given us only two meals, which are so not even what i ordered! the only thing that was right was 2 hashbrowns.

so i hurry back in my car, almost in tears with my pregnancy hormones, i get there and wait for the lady who served me and tell her that she gave us the wrong order.
she apologised, and then got her manager. clock strikes 10.30am. they tell me that they cant give me my order because breakfast is now closed. she then goes out the back and starts writing out a voucher for "one bacon and egg mcmuffin" etc etc.
so im just about in tears, and i tell her that im hungry now and thats why we ordered food, because we were hungry. she then starts writing a voucher for combos. again, i had to interupt, and asked if she could just make me some food right now that would be great. she then asked what i wanted, so i told her. she also tried to give me back my hashbrowns!

just a warning to those ordering breakfast close to 10.30, if they muck it up you might not get it rectified!

We check our order every time before we leave - mainly mine, as I ALWAYS order no cheese on the burger. We've been back a couple of times and got things fixed. I love gherkins, so they don't bother me, but I HATE their plastic cheese (plus I'm lactose intolerant so have to be careful what I can and can't eat from there).

Hell Pizza is worse - once I ordered a pizza and salad (I love their chicken salad with no cheese in it) and picked it up on the way home. Got home (40 minutes later), sat down to eat it.....and it was a Greek salad complete with olives and feta cheese. We rang and they said they'd deliver a new order (which we were quite happy with) but once they heard our address weren't so keen. So it ended up that I dropped it off to them the next day, got a free replacement order that night and ALSO got a voucher for a free meal the same again.

I found a caterpillar in my food - after I had eaten about half. when i quietly pointed it out - the guy accused me of finding it and then eating around it! eeewwww. Then told me that they came on the veges and he couldn't be expected to clean ALL of them. I then demanded my money back,. he refused.

Hmmm, maybe I should.

On Thurs I had probs at the medlab

On fri I went to the coffee club before a movie and waited and waited for our takeaway hot chocs. In the end we reminded them of our order and they made them for us, without apologising. In total we waited 22 minutes for 3 drinks. One was the wrong size, one didn't have the cocoa stirred in and all three were missing the marshmallows (that we'd paid for). We ended up late for the movie and the drinks were gross.

Sat McCafe - they forgot my muffin. I then decided to taste test Elles fluffy and it was cows milk! Even though i'd ordered soya and the receipt said soy! Imagine if she'd been allergic!!!

Also went burger wisconson last week and they accidentally put camembere in my burger which I can't eat due to the pregnancy!

It was a baaaaaaaad customer service week last week. I should at least call McCafe as if Elle had been allergic they would've got into huge trouble.

I worked in retail too, so I know what is expected of a customer service assistant.. out local supermarket is the worst... most of the staff don't even acknowledge you with eye contact let alone a friendly smile or hello... I think that's really rude and I usually let them know too

I worked for Briscoes and they had a rule, that any customer that walked within a two metre radius of us we HAD to acknowledge them verbally and ask if they needed help.. If we didn't we got made to stand at the door, hand out leaflets and acknowledge EVERY single person even if they had passed you earlier LOL

I wonder if that why, when I go to Briscoes, I can never find anyone? When I start walking towards someone, they have actually turned around and left before I got close. I actually don't go there any more! Hmmmm.....

I think its definitely eye opening when you work in retail/customer service! I did while I was at school and uni and some people are just out to moan and treat you like dirt! I always try to be polite when complaining- I hate doing it so it really annoys me but I am trying to make an effort to do it more otherwise it grates on me for ages afterwards.

We had bad service the other day- we ordered Pizza online and paid by credit card. The guy came and dropped it off then left- he came back a few minutes later and asked me if I had paid. I told him how we ordered and he rang his boss in front of me- the boss told him that we hadn't paid and for us to call him. I rang the order company to confirm the payment had gone through (it had) and then rang the pizza guy. He was so rude- he said he didn't have time to confirm our payment, for me to pay the delivery guy cash and then claim a refund from the order company. He ended up yelling at me and ranting about how he didn't give food away for free etc. I ended up hanging up- it was awful, he was so nasty. I called the order place again- they called the pizza guy and told him that we had paid. Didn't hear from him again, no apology, nothing. I wrote the nastiest review online about the place so I got my own back!

I think the thing is often people on the floor are young teens doing a part time job while they're at school and they really don't care. They don't care if you come back and they just want to finish their shift with as little effort as possible! They're usually the rude, non-smiling, non-talking ones who don't go out of their way for you.
