It does depend on if it is a party for baby or you!!!

Both my boys have had a BBQ and it has been our friends and family and a couple of babies born around the same time as them.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

i just a small thing with my immediate friends and family, (like 20ppl), and because i was at playgroup at the time, i just hirer the playgroup hall out and had a 2 hour lunch.

but we also had a huge 1st birthday with our antinatal class as well.

1st birthdays tend to be for the adults as the kids dont and wont remember them, but they are a lot of fun, i made a birthday cake, and just had party food (chippies and dip, hummus and crackers, and vege sticks, homemade meatballs, sausage rolls etc)

we just had Caitlyn's birthday party at the church playgroup hall (we hired it out) was mostly family and my friends and a few of hers , had icecream cake , and left the kids to it .
Personally , i know its a big deal for some people ,but id rather put in more effort to a birthday party she would remember , which is why I had a big one for her 6th .

we had a small birthday celebration for Dominic, just with family and a few close family friends. Lots of balloons, bubbles, singing, and jelly instead of cake. He had so much fun squishing the jelly between his fingers!
