Topic: Update on Jakes sleeping issues Posted: 05 September 2007 at 9:24pm |
Well a wee update.
I have been working with Tracie Martin for a while now, and we are having some great progress with Jacob. He is sleeping through at least once a week now, which is awesome, and in the last week, I have managed to get him to go back to sleep, if he has woken, without "boobie" twice, which is great.
Mainly what I am doing is changing my behaviour with him during the day, and trying really hard not to say no and use words like naughty. I find if we have had an afternoon where I am telling him off all the time, he sleeps worse than the days when we have lots of fun and laugh and play and not so much of the telling off.
I try to say things like "I can see ow much fun you are having hitting the coffee table with your spoon, it makes a good noise. How bout you try it on this (insert object here) and see what the noise is. It is hard and I really have to think about what to say, but I am noticing results and am finding I feel calmer with him. Not to say there is no yelling or telling off anymore (there so is!) and no stress (there is sooooo stress sometimes, but not as much)
The main difference in him that I have noticed is how much more loving and affectionate he is. He has always given kisses and cuddles if I ask, but now he comes up and does it spontainiously. AND he gets really excited when I collect him from daycare and comes to me for cuddles and kisses when he is upset and hurt instead of daddy or not at all.
In the next few weeks, we are going to send the bottles to the "bottle fairy" and the bottle fairy is going to leave a big sandpit for him. We are at the moment cutting the milk down, weaning him off it, so fingers crossed.
Thanks again for all your help and support when I needed it the most, you guys ROCK!

Annie that's great, good on you. I started off that way with Paris, my sisters made fun of me. I think it fell by the wayside a little when i had Ayja, lol sleep deprivation doesn't make for the most patient of mummies. But slowly and surely we are mostly getting it back. Just remember when you fall off and have a bit of a snap moment to get back on and keep going.. which by the sounds you already know that anyway. I used to think "oh what a lot of trouble to go through" but really, if it stops on the tantys and helps you little guy sleep better, then it's so so worth it! Have fun!

Heya Annie! I am so glad Jacobs sleeping is getting better! I am battling with my two about sleeping at the moment and I have found I really feel like a new person when it starts getting better. I have started to pay attention to how I talk to my kids too, I find Quinn especially responds so well to being spoken to carefully, my little motto is to talk to him how I would want to be spoken to. Tiredness turned me into a demon mother, growling and snapping often but making a conscious effort to watch how I speak to him really worked for me! It is amazing to see the difference! Long may it last!

He slept all night last night as well. YAY!!! He's been a bit, um, 2 year oldy today, though, but I am doing my best with my nice mummy voice and trying to be paitent. Char is sick AGAIN, so that frays my nerves a wee bit. I just have to try and remember to take a breath and not yell!

Wow Annie sounds like Jake is doing great, well done you for persevering. LOL at the "Bottle Fairy", Maya's bottles went to "Santa" when she was 20 mths or so coz it happened to be around Xmas time when I wanted to get rid of them, and it worked well, she never asked for it again.

Annie - you are awesome. It's amazing how much you can enjoy motherhood when you re-learn to be patient! (Don't look at me - I'm still intolerant )
Well done lovely!!
