We looked into one of these and they did look pretty good. In the end we decided we'd be moving house too soon for it to be worthwhile, and wouldn't regain the cost in the house sale price. So we didn't.
But I have friends who are renting a place with an HRV system and she said if you're the at-home type, the audible hum would drive you nutty. In her opinion, it would be fine for the professional couple who aren't there all day, but not for a mum and kids.
we have one as james has health probs and find it fine it and the heatpump have cut our power by half from $300 a month to around$150 on averge there is alot less condenstion on the windows in the morning and the house smells fresher and it only took two guys a hour and a half to put it in the roof so all in all it is worth it
