Old wives tales to determine gender drive me nuts.

I was told a million different things by a million different people... "oh, you are carring low aren't you?" "wow, so high still" "definitely a girl" "definitely a boy"

I wanted to tell them all to feck off.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I carried low (compared to a friend's bump anyway, who was super high) and all out the front.

My bump was HUGE and I carried quite low throughout the whole pregnancy.
I am not sure about the old wives tales, there are so many and they all differ.

I'm all out front, like a basketball up my top, and its low now that hes dropped but as I'm short I think it was pretty high to begin with. No one else thinks I've put weight on anywhere else ... but (haha, Bombshell) my butt and thighs are definitely bigger ... and I'm having a boy. (hubby reckons they just can't tell as my tummy and b**bs are so much bigger!! )

Oh - and the heartrate thing was wrong for me too at the start but is now sometimes right! So I wouldn't go by that.

I think the way I carry babies is more to do with my own body actually. I have a suspected retroverted uterus (tilts back) and carry my babies quite 'close' ie towards the back. I think I have always carried slightly low. Definiteyl lower than what Emma said anyway

Heart rates... it works for us. Apparently at about 12 weeks the rates can be much the same but after 20 weeks, they settle. 140-160 is considered a girl, 120-140 is considered a boy. (I think that's right.) Keep in mind whether baby was awake (active) or asleep at the time the rate was recorded.

I wonder if I have something like that... would that effect the fundal height measurements the midwife does? While I say I carried straight out front, I'm not sure all 4.26kgs was out front - midwife was worried about growth and sent me for scan, where she measured 9lbs at 38 weeks. Ya think it's a retroverted uterus??? (Still seeking explanation for this after 2.5 years!!)

Might put this in seperate thread actually.

This is me as well.

Also the heartheart thing is so not true. Josh was consistantly above 150 beats and hes def a boy.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I carry all out the front, like I've shoved a basketball up my top, and it looks like all baby but my butt and thighs beg to differ!

With Kiya (3.54kg/7lb 13 girl)I carried neither high or low! My bump was exactly in the middle... my midwife found it so funny.
With Josiah (3.18kg/7lb boy) I carried low.
With Xavier (4.02kg/8lb 14 boy) I carried in the middle again.

Oh, and all three had approx the same heartbeat rate at the same stage.

I had a small, tidy bump down low and had a girl. I stopped weighing myself at 12Kgs on (around 5mths pregnant) so assume I put on 18ish but people say I didn't look much bigger so they don't believe it was that much. I lost it all in the first 2 or 3 weeks so it was probably fluid etc. Most of the weight was on my lower half and the bump itself was really firm. I carried really low the whole time and at one of the scans the sonographer actually jokingly asked if the baby even had a head as it was so low that they couldn't see it!

Everyone thought I was having a girl as I guess I was carrying reasonably high, heart beat was high as well, even Midwife thought it was a girl. But Caleb is def a boy, I personally thought I was carrying pretty much in the middle but cant really tell, but pretty evenly distributed weight I think. I thought my bump was big but it was small compared to a friend of mine due at the end of june.

I have put on weight on my thighs though, and a little bit in the butt.

I carried DD all out front- didn't put weight on anywhere else and she was really high. This time I have put on weight all over and am carrying really low- but I haven't eaten nearly as strictly as I did with DD (with her I was a health nut) so don't know if thats made a difference. Guess we'll soon find out!

I carried out front and down low (only have stretch marks from the bottom of my bump, such a lil' fat head! lol), all weight was baby stuff and her heartbeat was 150 - 155bpm

I did most of the old wives tests and all said boy including "boys are more active" I ended up with imflamed rib cartige LOL I even "knew" I was having a boy (couldn't find out at scans)

She's definitely a GIRL

Mum is usually right when she does a bump feel - she is an old midwife (differnt to todays ones) and a nurse...so far she has like a 95% success rate -

altho she got Rackhells totally wrong so far - said a boy and scans say a girl!,

and she told a friend she was having a boy a few months back who didnt beleive her and friend was stunned when a baby boy popped out last week!!! LMAO!!!

Jack= high and didn't get as big out the front and put on weight sort of on my lower back (lovehandles?) and my ass

This one who is a girl by scans is way more out the front and low down.

With Jack I didn't really eat that much and pretty good food this time ive been eating so much chocolate and ice cream but have only put on the same amount of weight.

Oh and I was "pointy" (definitely a boy) and she had no morning sickness (definitely a boy) and we both assumed that we were having a boy (definitely a boy).... I think my comment was when people said "Oh you're having a boy, I carried like that *nod*" (I wanted a girl so bad I was NOT in the mood to listen to that bollocks!). I usually said "Let's hope like hell it's a baby or it is going to be an interesting labour".
