Topic: When to ditch the highchair? Posted: 08 February 2007 at 3:23pm |
i got given a tiny table and chair for mikey today and i was wondering when to make the switch from highchair to kiddy table.
i sat him down at it and he thought it was great fun, banging away on the table etc but he quickly got bored and ran away so i guess right now that's the disadvantage of the table....no restraint!
when did everyone else take their kids out of the highchair?

Maya moved from the high chair to a booster seat at the table around 15 mths or so. She had a little table and chairs as well but she wouldn't sit at it long enough for meals. She did use it for snacks tho.

It's entirely up to you.. we just bought Ella a booster chair for the table a few months ago, and now she prefers to sit at the table on a normal chair. Before that I was using her highchair! She never sat still and ate if she wasn't restrained.. so yeah, just recently (like the last few weeks) she has been great and will sit at the table until she's finished.

Bria is still in the highchair. Hannah moved out of it at about this age but she was a bit short on an ordinary chair so it was a bit of a pain really. The little tables and chairs are cute, sometimes we use them for morning tea. But if he runs away when he loses interest you'll need to watch him! The advantage of a 1yo in a highchair is that they're going nowhere until their hands are clean!

lol busymum, i know what you mean! i don't think he's quite ready to leave the highchair yet, he likes to eat on the run and it's very hard to force him to stay sitting, so at the moment i think the highchair's best.
i just tried to give him his afternoon snack at the table but he sat down, picked up the sandwich and ran off with it.

LOL.....how cute!!
Zaara is made to sit at the table and chair at kindy or else no food...so she is learning....but she gets away with murder with us, so I doubt that I will be soo lucky at home.
As soon as she starts listening to me....I will buy those small table and chair set...untill then she stuck with the high chair!

Taine is still in the highchair, but we have the opposite problem, unless we forceably remove him, he would sit there munching away all day. Little piggy. We will probably leave him there until he can comfortably reach the table in a normal chair. Another thing is that when he DOES get out, he is covered, often head to toe, in whatever he hs been "eating" - and I use that term loosely.

hahaha liz, that sounds like mikey. mikey has a habit of rubbing the back of his head, he does it all the time but sometimes he forgets that he's holding some food so the food gets all over his head and in his hair, banana's the worst for that.

when Zaara eats...if there is some thing in her mouth she does not like, she will take it out and hand it to me with a "ta". and then before I can get to her she wipes her hands on her cloths!!! Arrrgggggg

Ive always been so slack with the highchair for snacks Jack just sits on the floor. He grazes all day so if he was in the highchair he would be there all day. For messy or meals he is in the highchair.
