Topic: It makes me angry Posted: 10 September 2007 at 10:27pm |
watching Extreme makeover home edition normally makes me cry - and well ok tonight was no exception BUT it also made me SO angry - what is USA doing to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina....I mean they fund raise for Africa etc and yet the poverty and destruction was overwhelming - and this was not the first time i thought this.....New Orleans displaced so many people as a result of Katrina and yet little has been done...
I cannot understand american idol, oprah etc fundraising for Africa when charity begins at home and they need to clean up, rehouse, help out and hand up to those affected by Katrina...
I was SOOOO angry seeing this tonight!

There's an article in a recent issue of The Economist that addresses exactly this problem -- it is appalling, the lack of assistance they've been offered. My brother was among the servicemen called to help with the rescue efforts down South and he came home with horror stories that are on par with what he's seen in Iraq and Afghanistan. Over there, there is so much focus on the "War on Terror" that the politicians -- and admittedly, many of the country's citizens themselves -- can't see the destruction and devastation in their own backyards. It should make you angry, Bombshell. It makes me angry too.

apparently black people don't vote.
Oprah did heaps I recall. She gave like a million dollars as well. What gets me is that some people still think Bush is fantastic, but people in New Orleans are still living like they are. it's disgusting the reaction of a huge world leading country like that. (no offence americans - we love the people, just not your pres)

Made me angry too, Oprah did heaps with Bon Jovi, and had donated millions, she actually had something on tv about it not so long ago.
But yeah i agree, how can they just turn a blind eye to this sort of thing, its disgusting

With the American Idol gives back - they gave half of what was raised to the Hurricane Katrina relief and the other half went to Africa.
I think its disgusting what their government is doing. What they have spent on New Orleans isn't even a speck compared to what they have spent on Iraq so far. Totally disgusting. And if they had repaired the blardy levies then it wouldn't have been half as devastating but no - they were too busy trying to secure oil to spend the money maintaining their own infrastructure. Grrrrrrr - it annoys me that Oprah and other celebraties have to step in and do the government's work.

The thing that always gets me is, why don't people have insurance for their homes for things like this?

I kinda have to disagree I mean the hurrican katrina people definatley need help but they are alive. The children in Africa are actually dying the money there just goes to making sure they have clean water and food. People in America have access to clean water and food. That my opinion anyway. I think its great people are donating it doesn't matter what to as long as its helping someone.

I think a lot of them could not afford the premiums.
