I need help with my DS Sleep!

Tyrell no longer sleeps through. I feel we have tried just about everything, but seem to be getting no where. I am not a huge fan of CIO but have tried on numerous occasssions, it took longer for us to calm him each time.

He is a good sleeper during the day and will have 2, 1 hour naps.
There is no problems putting him down at night, he just wont sleep through.

There is no set time that he gets up, but for 1 week now I have put him in bed with me as it has been easier (yes naughty) But after he kicked me off the bed last night I have had enough and need a decent nights sleep (I work full time)

I am up for any suggestions to see if we are doing something wrong????

Have you tried a sleeping bag, and maybe also keeping a wee heater in there during the night to make sure the temperature is even?

And when he wakes in the night does he talk to himself, grizzle, or really scream?

That's all I can think of for now...

Thanks for your reply.

He is in a GoGo bag and we have an oil heater on in his room on low. (wondering if I need to get a temp recorder thing?)

He will cry which builds up to uncontrolable until we go in.

We have a temperature sensor as well as the sleeping bag / oil heater, I wouldn't say getting one is critical as you are probably keeping the room at a good temp anyway - but if you do decide to pick one up they have some decent ones for cheap at the red shed.

I find that I am buggered if we have a broken night's sleep and I'm still a SAHM, I can't imagine how shattered you must be with working as well ! Good luck with sorting things out.

All I can think of is (re?)introducing a cuddly toy. Put him to bed with it, then when he cries in the middle of the night go to him straight away (before it escalates), give him a quick cuddle, kiss, cuddly toy, whisper 'goodnight' and go out and shut the door.

But that might work better if he was 9mos not 12

He has a tag rag which is his "sookie rug" he sleeps with it. No soft toy to mention....maybe we need to find 1 he likes.

When we go in and talk to him/calm him he is wide awake, put him back in his cot and he cries.

I have always manged to get through the day with a V, but am now trying to loose weight and oh my gosh I sure did miss it today!

Send an email to the beautiful people at www.thesleepstore.co.nz

They'll send you a wee check list of whats going on and then email you back a list of things that could help!

Worth a shot huh?

when haleigh woke up in the night we gave her a drink of water.
she goes to bed with water and it has helped with our battles of the night waking. she hardly wakes up now, only if shes teething.
seemed she was jsut thirsty when she woke up.
could be an idea??

Thanks Anna, I think I may have to give it a go....

Haleigh's mum thank you for your thought. I will try that tonight.

We have cut out all but 1 of his bottles during the day. We had our Plunket appointment with a Karitane person and she told me we were giving him too much milk.
The following day he got a tummy bug and we took him to Gp and he was to have no milk for 2 days at all. So from there we are only giving him a night bottle.
