Topic: Fake tan - tips and tricks Posted: 25 January 2010 at 10:21pm |
I'm off to a wedding that involves baring my legs which are a grey shade of white. So I've bought some Garnier spray on fake tan. Despite its claim of being streakless, there are streaks. My feet look mighty tanned but my calves don't
Anyone got any tips or tricks? Wedding is on Friday so it has to be all pretty by then!

Maybe try scrubbing it off, and starting again?Lemon juice is supposed to be good for getting it off.
When you reapply it, make sure that you moisturise your feet and knees first, so they don't tan up a stronger color than the rest of you.
I have found the Garnier one does this to me too, but i like the Palmers bronzing moisturiser (only need 1 -2 applications to take the edge off pastiness, and its cheap as), st tropez mousse and the clinique one. I tend to turn orange really easily and these all seem to be the most oompa loompa proof :-)

I always moisturise ankles/feet/knees/wrists and elbows first so they don't get so much colour -- I use lotion tho, so no expert on spraying. I'd start out with less and gradually work up to more tan too (if possile with a spray tan).

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Make sure you get rid of any dry scaly skin first. I used to use Johnsons Holiday Skin but have changed to Dove Tanning Lotion and it's sooooo good - it moisturises as well.

I also think dove tanning lotion is good. One application is all I need to get a tan. However, if I am not careful, it always goes darker just below my knees and on the top of my feet no matter how much I moisturise.
The other option is to go to a beauty place and get them to do it...its not too expensive....but again, exfoliate first.
If you are doing it yourself....remember to WASH YOUR HANDS after......especially scrub between your fingers.

Yeah I much prefer the dove gradual stuff, every day for a few days gives a really nice colour. I put moisturiser on my knees and ankles but don't rub it in completely and avoid those areas with the tan until the very end and then with hardly any lotion on my hands rub in the moisturiser. I no longer get yellow knees and ankles

THe gradual stuff doesn't really work for me. It's slowly seeming to even out though I'm being quite careful about not appplying to the areas that are darker. Touch wood.
NZPiper, as soon as I read your post I started examining between my fingers ery carefully .... seem to be OK!

Sally Hansens for legs is reallllly good for spray tan! It sprays on tan so you can rub it in evenly its really god and I've used it without moisturising or exfoliating and it still came out even as!

and.....it washes off.....which I think is great so if it gets patchy or whatever somewhere, you can easily start again.

I have so given up on fake tanning cos I'm hopeless at it!! I always end a streaky orange mess with orange palms as proof LOL... I reckon the best idea is one of those spray tans you get done at the tanning place .. but this Dove stuff sounds the go Good Luck!!

Ta! If it's orange tomorrow, I'm in trouble. But I think it'll be OK but I'll stop now before it turns to custard
