My turn...

KIYA: Contractions started at 10:30pm, and they were initally 1 hour apart. By 3:15am they were 15 minutes apart, so I rung my Mum who was to be my support person, and who was working nightshift (she's a nurse). My Dad had stayed up with me watching movies, so when Mum got home, he went to bed (he had a test that day at uni!). I stayed up all night, walking round the lounge during the contrations. When my midwife, Julie, came round at 7:30 to examine me, I was dilated 7cm! By 9am, contractions were 5 minutes apart and lasting just over a minute each. We went to the hospital, where I got into the spa bath and my contractions slowed down to 15 minutes! AAGGGHHH!!!! By 11:30am I was dilated 8cm, and contractions were 7 minutes apart... Julie broke my waters to hurry things along. I got back into the bath, my contractions got stronger and Kiya was born in the bath at 2.02pm on Wednesday 28 March. She was caught by her Nanma (my mum) and flipped up onto my tummy. Nanma also cut the cord. Based on appearance at birth, Kiya was around 2 weeks early, but I don't know for sure as I had 6 due dates between 20 March and 12 April.

JOSIAH: I was diagnosed with "Irritable Uterus" which is basically a whole lot of irregular Braxton-Hicks style contractions that do zip. I had 3 weeks of contractions before anything happened. I saw my midwife, Gaenor, at 12:30pm for a normal appointment the day before my due date. I was 1cm dilated, but had been for a while. My cervix was FINALLY starting to thin, so Gaenor manually separated the layers of the cervix to try and bring something on. Within an hour, the first strong, hard contraction hit. By 10pm they were 15 minutes apart, and alot more painful than with Kiya. At 2:30am they were 5 minutes apart, and I was kneeling on my bed, breathing through a contraction when I half heard/half felt a "pop" then something went "thud!" into my pelvis and I realised that my waters had broken. At 5am I rung Gaenor, and arranged to meet her at the hospital at 6am (she lived 40min drive away). At 5:30 we rung the person who was going to stay with Kiya, she got to our house and we walked out the door! On the way to the hospital I had an urge to push which I was fighting like anything. We got to the hospital at 6am. Gaenor got me onto a bed and monitored everything for 30 minutes, then let me get into the spa bath. I started wanting to push almost straight away. Gaenor checked and said I was fully dialated, so I started to push. At 6:58am on Wednesday 4 May Josiah was born, in the same bathtub as his big sister. Nathaniel was my support and cut the cord.
