For those of you who had crowns done overseas, what warranty did they put on them? (i.e what happens if the porcelain chips which can happen and is often under warranty)
And also what happens if things don't go as planned, for example if a tooth needs a root canal and is infected and needs further treatment or antibiotics before a crown can be placed on it? Is there time put aside for these things?

For my crowns and root canal, there was time between the root canal and the crown being done to treat any infection. It takes about 5 - 7 days to make the crown anyway.
They do have warranty, but you would have to travel back to Bangkok to get it fixed. Crowns do have a life span, but that is for anywhere you get it done. You have a choice of what sort of crown you want. I had porcelain fused to metal which was cheaper.
My dad had some implants done in KL. He travels frequently so it worked out well. For an implant, there is quite a while between treatments because you have to wait till the titanium fuses to the bone (I think).

Right.
There was good and bad - apparently this woman would go in the morning for dental and have the afternoons free to recover/sightsee. She had a filling the first morning and the second morning she found out it had been done by a trainee and wasnt right and the proper dentist had to redo it. But that was the only downside. She had a whole bunch of fillings, veneers, a bridge made all for $800ish NZD. Apparently she refused other work such as braces and full veneers (because they would remove her teeth and she would have to spend a day teethless before having the new ones fitted so maybe they didnt do temporary ones!) but better being teethless in thailand then at home where you'd run into everyone you know i reckon! Sounds like she had fun and has returned to NZ healthy and all.

I had my bottom implants done several years before my top ones. The bottom ones had crowns put on straight away but the top I had to wait several weeks (maybe even a couple of months) before the permanent crowns could be fitted.

for a breast lift/implant and tummy tuck last year I cant remember how much she paid but had a great time and very pleased with the results.
Good luck with your choice, at the end of the day many of us would spent $18k on a new car, whats so bad about spending $?$? on your teeth, eating is every day part of our life and you need to be comfortable!
I got lasik vision down in chc last year at $4750 and love it, felt a bit selfish spending that kinda money, but havent looked back. Id spend $$ on my teeth if I need to at any stage. I got a root canal done in chc for $750 with the drugs alone for the sedation costing $140. worth it.

A couple of years ago df and I were in Phuket and his bridge got knocked out ( by me in a blonde moment  ) so we went to a big clinic there and they were amazing,it was a lovely facility, and very clean (unlike the rest of Thailand!) and for about $50 they replaced the bridge, and it's been much better than his previous one, never had any problems.
I recommend 
Like others have said, just do your research and try and get recommendations for specific places. Good luck!

Sorry I haven't responded again sooner... I was struck by a horrid tummy bug 
OK, so I've now had an email from a dentist friend, who kinda says the same thing as the other dentist, expect he said that you can't do the root canal after the crown, without damaging the crown. Also, he'd be tempted to use gold, as it's stronger, even though it doesn't look pretty, but due to my overbite...
Soooooo now I think the decision I've really got to make is:
* Do I get my jaw fixed for my overbite?
As far as I can tell, if I'm going to get this kinda work done, it's better before the crowns.
*sigh* I don't know what to do. I'd really love a great smile and to fix my overbite, but I guess it's the cost which is holding me back.
I'm now also looking at America, as you get those places which specialise in full mouth restoration. That said, I don't want veneers.
Sem... it was a chap in Newmarket that this dentist would refer me to. Said he was ace
With regards to waranty? I had no idea that ANY dentists offered a waranty? Maybe if in broke within a few weeks I guess they'd be sympathetic, but after 12months?

Geez, that's a good price. I was thinking it was about $8K for some reason.
Will start saving (though have to get DH's braces done first  , which we are definitely getting done in Auckland ). Still, as you said, teeth are quite crucial really, and I would prefer they don't all fall out when he's 60

Milliemoo- you definitely want to get the root canal before the crown. I had to have a root canal due to an infection on one of my front teeth. Both my top front teeth are capped due to an accident when I was a teenager. About a week after the root canal I noticed a crack in my crown- I had to have it replaced. The dentist wouldn't pay for it as it was 'wear and tear'.
I had a new crown put on and this one comes with a 10 year warranty

This is the confusing thing... I don't need root canal work just now, it's the process of removing the filling and inserting a crown (or another filling) that could cause the need for RC work, due to my molars already being heavily filled *very* close to the nerve 
I'm now leaning towards ignoring my molars for the moment (which don't cause me any pain) and concentrating on my overbite, which in the long term will decrease the pressure on my molars and hopefully any crowns that get fitted, should last a long time.

Ugh why does dentistry have to be so damn expensive!!! No wonder we all leave it to the point where pulling them out is an attractive option!
I thought my quote was high but doesnt come close to this so I think I'll stop complaining!

With that quote, I'll be running away to look for way cheaper options as well! :) Yes, Thailand is a great place for cheaper dental treatments. I've been to Thantakit International in Bangkok thrice(OP, filling and root canal) and was always happy with my visits. The dentists were professional and they've been trained abroad. It's also great that they don't continually upsell. Be very careful in picking a dental clinic overseas. The great part is that you'd get to travel and explore the country's attractions. Always do your research first.

I have been to Thailand and also India as a part of my dental tourism. I must say India leads the race for economical and best treatment when compared to Thailand. I had visited Dentzz dental for a root canal treatment and was very effective and economical.

As well I am considering dental treatment abroad. I completely agree with Kesha162258, and I am checking out all possible sources of info: chatting boards and forums, clinics websites and dedicated sites (dentalimplantsfriends with tons of info, stats and prices), info provided by medical tourism agents (placidway), etc.
