That is very sad Ann, I had forgotten there have been so many, and they are only the ones who make the headlines.
I don't know what has turned NZ into a nation where little children get beaten to death by people who are meant to care for them. Something needs to change, but what and how? You are 'preaching to the converted' here.

Hmmmm, that's powerful. I think it gets the message through - if you think something's not right, don't ignore it, DO something!
Has anyone else been sent that e-mail petition about the little boy Ngatikaura Ngati? It's trying to accomplish something really good, but I seriously question how they're going about it. I've e-mailed the author to ask a few questions before deciding what to do with it.

I haven't actually seen the Ngatikaura petition, but my Dad has, and he sent it to my mum and she was horrified at the images. I'm kinda glad I haven't seen it, I don't cope well with things like that.

i've seen the petition a couple of times but havent signed it yet cuase i havent seen anything on it to say what exactly they are petitioning and if it is valid or not.
i certainly hadnt seen that before tho and it was very sad and sickening the things some people could do.

I signed it although I don't think the pictures needed to be on it.

I think it's really unwise to have those pictures circulating on the net - unwise and disrespectful. And like GandT said, it doesn't specifically say what the petition is for - tougher sentences, sure, but it's not specific enough. And I don't think that Parliament even looks at petitions that aren't signed my hand with people's surnames and addresses included. If it's some sort of a hoax, I'll be so mad, and if it's genuine, than the author needs to choose a more effective and thought-out way of going about whatever it is that they're trying to achieve. Hmmm.... hope I hear back from them but I doubt I will somehow.

Sorry, AnnC - I'm threadjacking! I didn't mean to, sorry! I do think that the message you've posted the link to is a really, really good one and it's great to get it out there, to all sectors of society. Good on you!

I can not take credit for the video - it was posted on (dare I say it) another forum but thought it was pretty powerful. Very sad at the same time. I am stumped at what I can do - all I think is IF I ever witness anything like that there would be no doubt what I would be doing...
As for thread jacking - all good. I saw that email, did not sign it nor pass it on. The pictures were too graphic and sad for me to pass on. Also I read somewhere that the orginal sending of that email did not put the photos on it someone else did that. i guess she thought if nothing else it would get the message out there that Child Abuse DOES happen and its time to do something about it. (which i totally agree)
Unfortunatley there are too many ppl still out there who are willing to turn a blind eye to it all.

unfortunately there are a lot of kids living with it....I am a fan of calling CYFS - hey they might already have a complaint, or know extended whanau of the child etc....or maybe just maybe investigate it and remove the child in time....
I bet there are a lot of people at Nias tangi who are or have been the subject of CYFS themselves for similar....the names of those families are well known in some circles....the cycle of abuse hasnt been stopped and probably wont be for some time in some families!
The worst i ever saw was four still living generations who had each suffered and dealt out abuse...and one VERY meek mild young parent who spoke out (then wanted to take it back of course out of fear) but yet saved their kids lives, those of nieces and nephews and it allowed CYFS to linked together a heap of kids affected from those 4 generations of abuse! the allegations and history made both myself, a social worker and a judge well with tears on that one! and im pretty damn tough usually on these things!
we dont know til someone reports it! then investigates it...or when a child is found dead....

This is so sad and it moved me to tears.
I agree AnnC, far to many people turn a bind eye to child abuse. I wish that the video we have just watched would reach the people who really need to see this.
