ggrrrr, I don't know what i did to piss of Murphy in a past life but he better leave us alone from now on.
Today, we have to put down our gorgeous ginger kitty, - Joey, who we've had for 6 years.. he was our practice child.
He turned up a day ago and it looked like he had some dags on his tail.. we hardly see him anyway cos he stays away - the kids are a bit much for him. Anyway last night i got mike to hold him still so i could have a lcoser look and it wasn't just dags.. it was blood and tissue etc, and his tail felt really hard. took him to the vet this morning, and he had caught his tail somewhere and broken it.. about quarter of the way down from his back, and the rest has died...   It sucks cos it's something so little, but was gonna costs us $500 to get it amputated.. we just don't have that any more.. 2 weeks ago we could have.. but today, we had to go the cheaper option..$50.. to end his suffering.
We took him early this morning and I said to mike i just couldn't make that decision there and then, so left him there and came home and talked it out.. but came to that conclusion..
Mike has just taken Paris back to say goodbye she doesn't understand, he will go back later this afternoon once they have done it and pick Joey up so we can put him in his favourite sunny spot in the garden.
MURPHY! LEAVE US ALONE! If anything else goes wrong I'm gonna end up in the loony bin. seriously.
I knew it was all too good to be true, argh, Am kicking myself for saying to mike "It's all going too well, what's gonna go wrong?" a few weeks back.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Big hugs to you.
We did have all our cats insured but we decided not to continue the policy once we are on income as it was a little too much for 3 cats...of course I'm dreading something major happening and having to make the same choice you did. I'm almost temtped to re-insure the younger 2 now at the very least.

Hope your luck changes really soon!

I am so sorry to hear about your cat...
I too recently had my 17 year old boy put down due to finding him lying down having had a stroke - I seriously cried more on that day than at most funerals - and i set off everyone who came into the vet clinic as i sat holding his cage....
remember your cat fondly - they are wonderful friends to us and true constants in our lives

To all you wonderful ladies that have had to make that horrible decision, hers a poem that our vet sent us after we ahd to get our beautiful dog tess put down due to age.
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep
then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can't be won

You will be sad, I understand
Don't let this grief then stay your hand
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test

We've ahd so many happy years
what is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
When the time comes just let me go

Take me to where my needs they'll tend
Only stay with me until the end
and hold me firm, and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see,

I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Though my tail it's last was waved
from pain a suffering I've been saved

Don't grieve that it should be you
who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close we two these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Janine I'm so sorry but don't feel bad, years ago we had to get our cats tail amputated and it cost a fortune in excess of $700, as there is all the after care as well. We were lucky at the time we had two wages and only one child so we were able to pay. We now only have a bird and fish as with three kids there is no way we could pay that sum now. Geez it's bad enough when one of the fish die with the kids. Things have to get better soon, Fingers andtoes crossed for you.

Big hugs Janine! I have a strict policy on pets - we don't have them. Only because I get too attached and can't let go. We had to have our very old cat put down when I was 17 and I did not cope well at all. So now I spare myself the agony...
Sending you some sunshine and happy vibes and hoping things look up for you!

   Good plan Emma.
I don't have a particular affinity with animals, hell, I barely like children! But it does suck that you have to let go of your pet like that, when it is something relatively simple to fix - but so damn expensive!!! Atleast the poor cat won't be in pain anymore. That must have been very sore!
Hope you guys are doing ok. |

vivki - all our vet sent us was a bill - they used to send a condolensces card so i wasnt very impressed esp after all the money my little ratbag had spent in their surgery over the years...a lot of freinds did send the rainbow bridge poem though - that is soooo lovely...we know they are in a better place - over the rainbow bridge...

i know a friend whos cat fell off their 2 storey house and broke both its front legs and shoulders and broke her jaw. They spent $2k on getting her all fixed up. Shes a little cutie to!
