DS has started gnawing on my fingers when I hold his hands - not just sucking, he really chews quite hard with his gums. He also drools quite a lot while he's doing this.
He doesn't have red cheeks, or drool when he's not chewing. And I haven't noticed or felt any teeth yet... Could this be the beginning of teething? It seems a bit early?? I was really hoping it would take longer than this for the sake of my boobs!  )

Might be - Lydia didn't get red cheeks at all when her teeth came through. She did bite down on things and drool when chewing for about a month first, then started drooling more often, then got quite grumpy for a few days. We never felt any teeth first - and we were looking really hard! It was just there one day, and the second one within the week.
ps - have only been chomped once so far, normal BFing hasn't changed. Apparantly it does when the top teeth come in...

Joscia - Corban has been doing that too. I'm fairly sure it's just a developmental stage, he has just graduated from chomping on his hands to chomping on his toys this week

I thought the same when my DD was about that age, she is now 8 months and still no sign of teeth but we got her an amber necklace and the dribble has decreased a lot. I think it is definitely a developmental stage and then some babies go on to teeth early and others take awhile to get any teeth.

Sam had his two bottom front teeth at just before three months old and I don't remember a lot of red cheeks or drooling, they sort of just popped up all of a sudden. He did used to chew and gnaw on his hands and anything he could get his hands on though. So could be teething I guess. Some babies get teeth really early!

it could be teething. Henry had 2 teeth around 3months cant remember exactly. I know he had four by 4months and eight teeth by 6months. He drooled alot but didnt get red cheeks or anything like that. ANd didnt even seem that bothered with them coming in.

Lilly got two at 4 months, she had 12 by 12 months.
I never had a problem with breastfeeding (bf to 13 months), so don't worry to much

I'm pretty sure it's just a development stage as they begin gumming a lot of things at that age.
Having said that, my DS started teething at 10weeks, but it was running naps/red cheeks/drooling, all the classic signs. I kept getting told it wasn't teething until I showed the nurse at his 4 month check his first 2 teeth

teeth take a long time to appear from the first signs of teething so even if it is it deosnt mean teeth will be there soon.

Caden started gumming things hard out at about 2 months old, like our fingers his hands, toys whatever really, and he even had the red cheeks and heaps of dribble, but he didnt get his first tooth until 6 months old.
Plunket told me that its a development thing.

I would agree about it being a developmental thing. Arianne did the same and only got her teeth at 7 months.

Glad you asked this Josica...Clodagh has been doing this HEAPS lately...and the whole chewing, crying, red cheeks has gotten worse the last day or so....I think she might be getting teeth although Plunket also told me it was developmental too. Hmmm might just need to wait and see lol
