discount Premium Holidays

Had the weirdest phone call and don't know if this a scam or not...but....

Guy rings up and says he is from discount premium holidays and congratulatinos I've won seven nights accomodation in one of their hotels - situated in Australi and New Zealand. He talked about them for a while and then asked if I had a credit card. i said yes. Talked a bit more about the hotel and then asked if I could verify my details by reading the number on my credit card - "it should start with 4". I said " there is no weay in hell I am reading you my credit card number" and he started to get really abusive saying that his company had been around for so many years blah blah blah - so I evntually hung up - then rung the police and my credit card company! He was VERY convincing, if it was scam so for any of you getting these calls - be wary!

There was a scam like that mentioned on Campbell Live - a lady was phoned up and told that she had won an all expenses paid trip to Disneyland for her and her family..they stringed it along to say that they needed her credit card number for a 'transference fee'. They phoned her on her mobile phone, knew her name and were really convincing. The caller display showed a number from China that was disconnected when they tried to ring back later. Scammy scammy scam people. grrrr.

I've had 2 of those phone calls and yes they are very convincing!!
I really hate to think of the poor people who get fleeced by these con artists, they are so friendly and chatty on the phone it would be very easy to get carried away and just give them your CC no without questioning it till later.

There seems to be lots of scams like that around at the moment. Well done for not getting sucked in. lol I bet you he's pissed you were such a shrewd cookie.

I've had two of these calls over the last few weeks. They suck.

We haven't had the calls, but DH gets the emails from Togo (it was on Fair Go a few weeks ago), that a relative has died and was a millionaire. As our surname is so unusual (as in we are related and know if someone says a name of someone with the surname you can put it to one of FIL's brothers) we know everyone and the person they are stating is not a family member. Scammers so annoy me, i'm wondering what they would of said if you told them you didn't have a CC.

Another thing my brother forwarded me an email on (don't know how true it is though) was where someone calls from supposedly your credit card company saying that your card has been used fraudulently & they want to verify the transaction. They tell you the amount that was charged & then read you your credit card number. That's right - they already have your card number! The thing is they then ask you to verify that you've still got the card in your possesion & to do this get you to read out the security number on the back of the card. They then say that they'll credit the fraudlent transaction back to your account. What they are really after is that security code which means they can go shopping on the web as a lot of sites ask for that code. Dodgy!!! You've really got to have your wits about you these days ay?

I had a call the other day the guy had a asian accent and sounded like he was on a cell phone could hardley here him offering he discounted holiday in ausie i said no thanks we dont even have passports then he said (not so nicely) it not like you have to plan a holiday now you have 2 years to use it and again i said no thanks so what did he do he hung up on me . if he was for real not very profesional but my feeling is that he was so dodgy and glad i didnt take it
